An Evaluation Of Efl Textbooks Used In Higher Education, Alma Lama, Diana Sejdiu, Eglantina Bilalli
UBT International Conference
In English as a Foreign Language/English as a Second Language (EFL/ESL) contexts, textbooks are simultaneously important. Indeed, textbooks contain the syllabus, which is being expected by teachers to follow more or less faithfully, with end-of-course exams being based exclusively on textbook content. In this study, we will investigate the selection of English language textbooks as tools used in public and private universities. We will look at the levels of content, and what textbooks include and exclude in terms of topic, linguistic information, pedagogy, and culture. We will also examine how teachers and learners use textbooks and the processes by which …

For 20+ years in Savannah, Georgia, Parent University has successfully enhanced the ability of families to create an environment in which learning thrives for both children and parents. When the pandemic closed schools and disrupted normal programming, Parent University immediately pivoted to online programming to continue connecting families with relevant education, resources and support throughout this time of need. The pandemic also exposed a huge gap in technology and education. Therefore, Parent University is working to close that gap with our new Tech College at Parent University.

The Importance Of Digital Skills In Education In The Covid-19 Era, Alma V. Lama
UBT International Conference
Education is a fundamental right and we have to make sure we hold on to it despite any crisis and beyond. Just like in all the world, Kosovo has been affected by the pandemic COVID -19 in March 2020. The pandemic situation has changed how things function and it looks like this is going to be a new normal. As a result of it, all industries including the educational institutions, those private and public, had to reimagine how to switch into online performance and computer-based learning. Online learning has served as a lever to continue with education in an online …

Parent – Teacher Voices In Kosovo Schools A Micro-Study On Parent Involvement, Syzane Merovci
UBT International Conference
Parent involvement is crucial toward successful child home learning, involving multitude of duties and responsibilities. Successful schools found that the role of parents in children’s education is invaluable and of paramount importance, therefore it is the most accurate predicator of a child’s success in school. Recent data shows that majority of research agree to the point that despite many strides made by schools to get things better, there are hindered barriers either coming from the family as well as from the school. Creating a sustainable collaborative partnership seems to be the biggest challenge faced by practitioners engaged in school reform, …

Generational Shift: Why We Should Modify Our Instructional Strategies For The Next Generations Of Aviators, Mary Niemczyk
Generational Shift: Why We Should Modify Our Instructional Strategies For The Next Generations Of Aviators, Mary Niemczyk
National Training Aircraft Symposium (NTAS)
Air transportation has proven to be an extremely safe, efficient and reliable means for travel – a testament to highly effective instruction and training. Airlines are forecasted to continue their rapid expansion over the next 20 years needing to hire more than 2 million aviation personnel (Boeing, 2015). As Baby Boomers retire, at the rate of 10,000 per day/4 million per year, a ‘generational replacement’ or shift will occur with Gen Y and Z members taking their places in the workforce.
Each generation is impacted by significant events during their developmental adolescent years. For Gen Y members, technological and K-12 …

Why Do We Learn What We Learn? The Intersection Of Leadership And Learning In Aviation Environments, Kadie Mullins
National Training Aircraft Symposium (NTAS)
Why do we learn what we learn? Teach what we teach? Train how we train? Largely, decisions regarding instruction and training in aviation environments are dictated by leadership. Industry CEOs beliefs on professional development, organization culture inspired by leadership, and the instructors’ personal leadership philosophies create specific learning schema while legislation, credentialing agencies, and public policies provide mandates surrounding licensing and certifications. This paper will explore the contexts and concepts in which learning and leading intersect and the impacts of those intersections on learner outcomes and instructional planning. Exploring pertinent historical, societal, philosophical, and psychological factors that guide instruction and …

Scholars study a variety of factors that improve adult education outcomes. Academic research is typically focused on a single factor. There is a lack of guidance on combining research findings to create synergy. The opportunity exists to create a synergetic learning model that combines the work of many scholars.
Evaluating A Behaviorist And Constructivist Learning Theory For 21st Century Learners, Paul F. Sidney
Evaluating A Behaviorist And Constructivist Learning Theory For 21st Century Learners, Paul F. Sidney
Georgia Educational Research Association Conference
A critical issue in educational learning theory involves examining the effectiveness of the modern constructivists and the traditional behaviorist educational theories to impact 21st century global student learning. Research articles by Ultanir, E. (2012). An Epistemological Glance at the Constructivist Approach: Constructivist Learning in Dewey, Piaget, and Montessori, addresses learning development based on natural talent as an assertion of constructivism. Additionally Magni, Polina, Cappetta, & Proserpio (2013) in their article Diving Too Deep: How Cognitive Absorption and Group Learning Behavior Affect Individual Learning assert that the constructivist theory provides students with an intrinsic, collaborative effort towards learning. Additionally Oakland (2012) …

Changing Their Idea Of “Studying ” Into Our Idea Of “Learning ” - The Efficacy Of Interactive Online Programs, Leslie S. Jones
Changing Their Idea Of “Studying ” Into Our Idea Of “Learning ” - The Efficacy Of Interactive Online Programs, Leslie S. Jones
Interdisciplinary STEM Teaching & Learning Conference (2012-2019)
One of the most frustrating aspects of college teaching is facing a lecture hall full of students who sit in class trying to figure out the easiest ways to pass rather than the best way to actually learn. New online platforms provided by publishers are an effective way to beat these passive learners at their own game. Picture the joy of walking into your class knowing that students have read the text before your lecture. Imagine how you can teach if you do not have to assume you start with one big tabula rasa. Building assignments into course requirements will …
From Objects To Subjects: Voices, Perspectives, Histories, And Learning In The South Asian American Experience, Edith Gnanadass, Ian Baptiste
From Objects To Subjects: Voices, Perspectives, Histories, And Learning In The South Asian American Experience, Edith Gnanadass, Ian Baptiste
Adult Education Research Conference
Using a postcolonial lens, this paper critiques scholarly discourse on the experiences of South Asian Americans (SAAs) in the United States as being too othering and too homogenized. In most of that discourse, SAAs are treated as objects who may only be reactive to dominant society and culture; their racialized experiences are also muted. Treating SAAs as subjects, this paper presents a way to enrich their experiences, paying particular attention to how those experiences have been racialized. Drawing upon, but also critiquing cultural historical activity theory, the paper presents an alternative way to think about and empirically examine learning.

Location, Relocation, Dislocation Learning Cultures Or Cultures Of Learning?, Paul Armstrong
Adult Education Research Conference
Following a recent organizational relocation, the impact on the teaching and learning became evident. In analyzing the impact of change, the most useful way of understanding the change was to utilize the postmodern concepts of location and (dis)location, and to consider using anthropological research techniques to identify cultures of learning.
