Instructors often think that an online course need not be more than recording lectures, moving content online, and doing exactly what one does in an in-person class. In fact, creating an engaging online course means adapting to change and considering the unique perspective of students in an online environment. This poster details the new outreach method we utilized to increase our bibliographic instruction sessions with the distributed Brandman campuses served by the Chapman Leatherby Libraries. The use of our new electronic newsletter increased the amount of bibliographic instruction sessions that we performed during the 2017-18 year.

Rapid e-learning programs such as Articulate Storyline make it possible to develop highly interactive sharable content object reference model (SCORM) packages without advanced programming knowledge. These SCORM packages can be loaded into most learning management systems (LMS) and allow librarians to better gauge students' information literacy competency and create flipped instruction opportunities to allow for better use of valuable in-class time. Covering necessary information literacy topics in a one shot session can be difficult. To address this challenge, the Marquette Raynor Memorial Libraries moved to a new instruction model for the First Year English program. The new model involved embedded librarianship and interactive Articulate Storyline tutorials pre-loaded into the Learning Management System (LMS). These new initiatives provided flexibility in teaching information literacy concepts and fostered stronger relationships between librarians and their instructors. Overall, science teaching at the university level has remained in a relatively static state. There is much research and debate among university faculty regarding the most effective methods of teaching science. But it remains largely rhetoric. The traditional lecture model in STEM higher education is limping along in its march toward inclusion and equity. In this research project, I investigated the effects on eighth grade students’ performances and perceptions throughout a blended learning experience by implementing a combination of face-to-face and online instructional strategies in an Algebra classroom. This blended experience was segmented into two units – a face-to-face unit and a blended unit – to allow for comparison within the participant group of high-achieving mathematics students. Edmodo, an online educational platform, was utilized to provide students with access to online resources at home during the blended unit. Content augmentation strategies (CAS) are instructional methods which specify the overlaying of content objects by content augmentation objects in order to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of instruction. The goals of this research were to build a comprehensive framework around CASs, determine the experimental effects of CASs in an instructional virtual environment (VE), and make recommendations regarding the employment and further study of CASs in instructional virtual environments. The VE experiment examined the effectiveness and efficiency impact of six different content augmentation strategies which overlayed different content augmentation objects onto four immersive VE scenarios.
