Gertrude Stein’S Tender Buttons As Cubist Poems: An Analytical Study, Yasmeen Abdulraheem Alsajee, Hamdi Hameed Aldouri
Journal of STEPS for Humanities and Social Sciences
Tender Buttons is a compilation of poems published by American writer Gertrude Stein in 1914. It is an experimental piece. In it, Stein describes commonplace items using descriptors that are not often associated with them. Each poem examines a unique perspective on a common thing. “Objects”, “Food”, and “Rooms” are the three sections of the book. The Cubism Stein employs reflects the experimental character of Stein's collection. Her poetry are packed with rhythm, repetition, and sound. This research deals with Tender Buttons as Cubist poem. It analysis these poem and sheds light on the Cubist elements that is found and …

A Guide To Common Nutrition, Troy Scheer
Honors Theses
The purpose of this project was to use the knowledge I have gained through my undergraduate courses and apply it in a format that would be beneficial for the average consumer. This project was researched, written, and designed to be accessible by someone without a background in science or nutrition with the goal of educating the reader of some basic nutrition principles. With this knowledge, it is my hope that the reader will be able to make better nutritional choices and liver a longer and healthier lifestyle by first learning how to choose the right foods. While putting this project …

Rewriting Web 2.0 Discourses Of The Local For Socio-Spatial Literacy Theory, Erin Daugherty
Rewriting Web 2.0 Discourses Of The Local For Socio-Spatial Literacy Theory, Erin Daugherty
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation seeks to provide a framework for engaging with two spatial concepts that have been foundational to theorizing literacy across time but have often been taken for granted as passive backdrops to the social action of literacy practice: the notions of “the local” and “the global.” By interrogating the histories, both past and ongoing, of these two spatial concepts as they are interwoven into the sociocultural paradigm of literacy theory, research, and pedagogy, this project identifies new ways that literacy researchers and educators can attend to spatial concepts so as to promote and encourage literacy research and learning that …

Care For Some Lunch? It’S More Than Just Food! Care, Commensality And Pedagogic Meals In Irish Primary Schools, Caroline Mcgowan
Care For Some Lunch? It’S More Than Just Food! Care, Commensality And Pedagogic Meals In Irish Primary Schools, Caroline Mcgowan
Level 3
This expository article addresses a lacuna in policy and practice literature around using primary school lunches as both a pedagogical opportunity and a space to expose children to social and cultural ‘rituals’ that model both care and food sharing as commensality. The article argues that policy literature in this space broadly tends to be concerned with a medicalised paradigm of nutrition, physical and cognitive development, and disease prevention, with scant regard for the impact that natural ‘everyday’ practices of eating and caring can have on enhancing encultured commensality, care and learning.

Master's Theses & Capstone Projects
Families and children around the world are trying to find the food they need to live healthy, balanced lives. There are many factors that contribute to the demise of this becoming a reality for them. Food deserts, low income, food insecurity and the mental stability of parents everywhere contribute to this demise. There are ways to overcome these issues. When children do not have the food they need to fuel their minds and bodies, including test scores, and behavior in the classroom are affected. Taste Of Place And Provenance, Alison Stevens
Taste Of Place And Provenance, Alison Stevens
WWU Honors College Senior Projects
Bioregionalism is a framework that could serve to bridge the gap between humans and the land that they inhabit. A bioregional food system exemplifies the reduction of large scale agriculture and economy to one that falls within climatologically and geographically determined regions, superseding anthropogenic and political borders. Not only would a bioregional food system encourage mindfulness of the ecosystem that surrounds a community, but create a secure, community-based economy scaled to match the bioregion. The valuation of products and crops of local farmers and artisans would reflect the reliance on bioregionally specific wares, as well as ground members in their …

Games In Agriculture, Food, And Natural Resources Education, Aaron J. Mckim, Robert Bud Mckendree, Catlin M. Pauley
Journal of Research in Technical Careers
Educational games provide learners with team-based, experiential, and problem-centered learning opportunities. Therefore, educational games are recommended to encourage learner success in an increasingly complex and collaborative world. Research exploring interventions to increase teacher affinity toward games is needed to inform expansion of games within classrooms. The current study leveraged the input, environment, and outcomes model to analyze perceptions of games held by school-based agriculture, food, and natural resources (AFNR) educators before and after a professional development experience focused on educational games. Results indicate teachers held a favorable perception of games before engaging in the professional development. Engagement in the professional …

P.E.A.R Participation, Education, Action, And Resources: Combating Food Insecurity Through Collaboration, Aileen Assumma
West Chester University Master’s Theses
Students have been negatively impacted socially, academically and personally through the inability to provide enough nutritious meals to fuel their bodies. The higher education public system should be seen as a collaborative effort to educate institution employees on the issue of food insecurity as the first step in combating food insecurity among their local community. Creating a group of Community Advocates made up of members across the community will provide the opportunity for institutions to examine the systemic barriers put in place within higher education systems that hinder student ability to have sufficient access to food sources. I will validate …

Campus-Based Agriculture: The Future Of Food At Gettysburg College, Bryn K. Werley
Campus-Based Agriculture: The Future Of Food At Gettysburg College, Bryn K. Werley
Student Publications
This research investigates various methods for producing food on the campus of Gettysburg College in order to improve food sustainability. The transportation of food contributes to the increased use of fossil fuels, which in turn leads to global warming and climate change. By producing a larger portion of its food on-campus, Gettysburg College could reduce the amount of food transported to the school, thereby lessening the College’s environmental impact. Urban farming techniques, hydroponics, aquaponics, and greenhouse-based agriculture are explored as viable methods for achieving this goal. Examples of the use of these techniques on college campuses are drawn from Allegheny …
