Teaching requires constant adapting, and need to continually reflect, and be ready to make changes when teaching elements may not prove effective. The purpose of this study was to examine faculty and student views of effective elements of teaching in an associate level allied health program. Surveys were collected from associate degree seeking allied health students and full-time faculty currently employed at a technical college in the northeastern region of the state of Georgia. The results showed a high confidence level with little to no difference in mean confidence levels between faculty and student responses on 15 Likert-scaled questions. Two …

Business & Information Technology

The Department of Business at Montana Tech was required to draft a new set of standards for the promotion and tenure decisions for its faculty. Montana Tech, a small comprehensive university, had employed a campus-wide set of standards that were used for faculty members in all departments on the campus. The purpose of this paper is to identify the process used by the Business Department as they set their specific standards and to help those on the tenure-track to learn how to keep score and to argue for the importance of establishing standards by which tenure-track faculty will be measured.

At the 2015 AALS Annual Meeting, a panel was convened under this title to discuss whether separate tracks and lower status for legal research and writing (“LRW”) faculty make sense given the current demand for legal educators to better train students for practice. The participants included law professors, an associate dean, and a federal judge.2 Each panelist was asked to respond to questions about the “two-track” system—a shorthand phrase for the two tracks of employment at many law schools whereby full-time LRW faculty are treated differently than tenured and tenure-track faculty. Due to the significant nursing faculty shortage and the probable impact on healthcare, it is imperative to expand the available literature on the nursing faculty shortage. The descriptive data in this study highlight the critical nature of the aging and retiring nursing faculty body. The statistics available in this study regarding this are quite alarming. The Northeast may be looking at a mass exodus of nursing faculty in the next 5 years with up to 70 percent of the faculty leaving their current position. Preferred Learning Mode, Instructor Competence And Tuition Reimbursement: What Our Faculty And Students Are Telling Us, John C. Griffith, Rita Herron

This research examined comments in open response areas from 228 faculty and 659 student surveys regarding learning mode preference (classroom, online, video synchronous) instructor competence with technology and the impact of tuition reimbursement on student choice of learning mode. Most faculty and students viewed traditional classroom as the best option for quality interaction and learning. EagleVision Home (synchronous video learning) courses were noted for increased social presence and online courses were viewed as the most flexible option to take a class. Research questions focused on how they perceived adult learners as well as how teaching in an adult-oriented degree program has influenced their teaching beliefs and practices.

The purpose of this study was to investigate if faculty self-efficacy beliefs impacted their choice of teaching methods in the classroom. Self-efficacy beliefs help to explain teacher instructional activities and their orientation toward the education process. Findings have implications for higher education as the strategies faculty use in the classroom are linked to student success.

This study compared the perceptions of students versus faculty at Central Mountain College with regard to the issue of student engagement. Central Mountain College participated in the Community College Survey of Student Engagement and the Community College Faculty Survey of Student Engagement during the spring semesters of 2009, 2011, and 2013. The institution was provided with aggregate results from these survey administrations by the Center for Community College Student Engagement. Prior to this study, the survey results had not been accumulatively evaluated by the institution.

Prior to 2009, a mid-sized public institution in the southeast had a faculty-driven honor policy characterized by little education about the policy and no tracking of repeat offenders. An updated code, implemented in August of 2009, required that students sign an honor pledge, created a formal student honor board, and developed a process to track and hold accountable, repeat offenders. Self-reported data on faculty vigilance to detect and punish cheating is collected both prior to and after a change in the honor code at a mid-sized public institution in the southeast. Margaret “Peggy” McCoey is the Director of Graduate Programs in Computer Information Science, Information Technology, and Economic Crime Forensics at La Salle University. Born in the Oxford Circle section of Philadelphia in 1957, Peggy grew up in St. Martin of Tours parish attending their grade school before going to Little Flower High School. After graduation in 1975, Peggy entered La Salle University an undergraduate where she received a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. Peggy received a master’s degree from Villanova in 1984.
