Foreword and Overview The following report is a summary of the status of the projects and activities generated from Western Washington University's Office of lnstitutional Assessment and Testing (OIAT) during the last quarter of the 1991-1993 biennium. A summary of significant activities and outcomes that have occurred since 1989 precedes the plan. The following report is a final summary of Western Washington University's institutional assessment plan for the 1991-1993 biennium. The projects and activities listed on the separate sheets are completed or are very near completion. In addition, many of the office's activities and projects are on-going and continuous. A brief narrative description of the journal article, document, or resource. Review of solicited gifted program evaluation reports and the literature found a relative paucity of such reports as well as a lack of methodological sophistication, reporting, and utility concerns. Promising practices were seen in some evaluations conducted for program improvement, which employed multiple methodologies, sources, analysis techniques, and reporting formats. (DB)

Universities within Australia are facing increasing demands to demonstrate quality in both product and process by ensuing that their aims are met efficiently and effectively. As part of the quality assurance process for Edith Cowan University, a multi-campus institution, an evaluation was undertaken to monitor the effectiveness of the University health service and its significance within the University community. Responses from both staff and students to a survey conducted during August 1993 on behalf of the Department of Medical and Health Services indicate a high level of support for this service. This NebGuide will help dairy producers use information from the National Genetic Evaluations for Somatic Cell Scores in selecting sires.

New genetic evaluations for Somatic Cell Scores (SCS) will be published in July 1993. This evaluation system will allow producers, for the first time, to select sires genetically for SCS. This system will use national data and will be analyzed by USDA, Beltsville, MD. The procedures used will be exactly the same as the current evaluation system for milk, fat and protein.
