Countering The Narrative: A Layered Perspective On Supporting Black Males In Education, Ramon Goings, Aaron Smith, Daniel Harris, Tanashala Wilson, Demetrius Lancaster

Ramon Goings

The challenges facing Black males throughout the educational pipeline have been discussed by researchers in detail. However, missing from this research are discussions from the perspective of researchers, educators, and community members united on how to better support Black males. The purpose of this reflective piece is twofold. First, we address and contextualize the issues that Black boys and men face and have to overcome in academic and community settings from our various perspectives serving as a teacher candidate, in-service teacher, and higher education professionals. The Legal Impact Of Emerging Governance Models On Public Education And Its Office Holders, Robert A. Garda Jr., David Doty Jan 2013

The Legal Impact Of Emerging Governance Models On Public Education And Its Office Holders, Robert A. Garda Jr., David Doty

Robert A. Garda

The idea that changing the formal structure of governance can lead to better schools is rooted in American political and intellectual history. Politicians, career educators, parents, business leaders, and investors continue to wrangle over the control of public schools all across the country. Teachers With Passion: Teaching In A Distressed Educational Environment, Professor Ben C Osisioma

Prof Ben Chuka Osisioma

Passion is great enthusiasm, very strong emotion, a willingness to sacrifice. Men and women with passion outpace themselves as they go beyond mere talent, to leave their impact on society. Lakewood, New Jersey has a population approaching 100,000. It is perhaps the fasting growing and most vibrant city in the United States. Yet, its schools are in decline. No outsider, no professor of education, and no researcher will completely solve the problem. Lakewood is unique. The economic, political, and moral vitality of Lakewood, with its world renown for learning, is not at all focused on the Lakewood School District, but on its independent district, which is growing at a staggering eighteen percent annually. One thousand new homes are built and 2,000 babies are born each year to families who have …

Reflections On Educational Administration, Arthur Lang

Arthur Lang

I began my graduate studies in the spring, 2005 and finished in spring, 2007. Over those two and a half years, I have transformed my view of education. I have developed a vision and implemented changes in my own instruction. I learned what educators mean by change and have embraced its benefits. I realized that the school is not an isolated institution, but must seek outside support and enlist all members of the community. Most importantly, I learned that principals are not managers, but instructional leaders who lead by doing.
