A Comparison Of Restorative Justice Ideology Between Administrators, Teachers, And Parents, Renée J. Alger
A Comparison Of Restorative Justice Ideology Between Administrators, Teachers, And Parents, Renée J. Alger
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Researchers suggest that restorative justice processes in schools are a successful alternative to traditional punishments for school discipline, and are used for both reactive and proactive responses to behavior issues. However, the processes are not sustainable if the administration implementing restorative justice do not promote a restorative justice ideology (RJI), and if all systems that impact the student are not aligned. Therefore, study was conducted to compare the level of restorative justice ideology between groups of administrators, teachers, and parents with a validated restorative justice ideology survey instrument that includes cooperation, restoration, and healing, and an accumulative score for RJI …
Preparing Novice Nurses For Early Recognition Acute Deterioration, Norma Patricia Harris
Preparing Novice Nurses For Early Recognition Acute Deterioration, Norma Patricia Harris
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Hospitalized patients increasingly present with complex health issues that place them at risk for acute patient deterioration (APD). Novice nurses are ill-equipped with the critical clinical skills to function competently in recognizing APD, placing patients at risk for negative health outcomes. This project addressed the need to educate novice nurses to recognize APD and answered the project focused questions that asked if an educational intervention with high-fidelity simulation (HFS) would improve nurse knowledge and clinical confidence in recognizing APD. Benner's novice-to-expert and the constructivism theory were used to guide the project. Based upon a review of the literature, the HFS …
General Education Teachers' Perceptions Of Supporting English Language Learners In Regular Education, Jose Luis Lopez
General Education Teachers' Perceptions Of Supporting English Language Learners In Regular Education, Jose Luis Lopez
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The number of culturally and linguistically diverse students at an urban elementary school in a southern state has greatly increased since the 2014-2016 school year. Corresponding low state achievement test scores have also been observed for English language learners (ELLs). The purpose of this study was to investigate the instructional strategies that general education teachers implement in their classrooms to support the academic needs of ELLs and teachers perceptions of their own abilities to instruct ELLs. The conceptual framework for this study was Bandura's theory of self-efficacy. The case study research design included interviews and observations with a sample of …
Barriers To Effective Curriculum Implementation, Erica Nevenglosky
Barriers To Effective Curriculum Implementation, Erica Nevenglosky
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
An administration of a private school located in the south reported the problem of a lack of curriculum fidelity to a new phonics program, which created a need to identify barriers preventing full curriculum implementation. Using the concerns-based adoption model (CBAM) as the conceptual framework, this qualitative case study identified concerns and barriers teachers report when implementing a new curriculum and used the. Data were collected from 10 participants (8 teachers and 2 administrators) through a questionnaire, interviews, and observations. Participants were interviewed to identify any barriers experienced with curriculum fidelity of a new phonics program. Teachers were observed to …
Novice Teachers' Perspectives Of Learner-Centered Reading Instruction, Jennifer Louden
Novice Teachers' Perspectives Of Learner-Centered Reading Instruction, Jennifer Louden
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Learner-centered reading instruction was underrepresented in novice K to 5 teachers' classrooms despite a district mandated requirement to use them. When learner-centered reading instruction is not used, students are less motivated to learn and less likely to become proficient readers. The purpose of this bounded qualitative case study was to explore novice K to 5 reading teachers' perspectives of learner-centered reading instruction and how they taught a comprehensive reading curriculum in their classrooms. The conceptual framework was based on the Arkansas Department of Education's science of reading and Weimer's learner-centered teaching. The research questions focused on exploring novice K to …
