Much research has been conducted on the importance of reading fluency. Researchers nearly all conclude that reading fluency greatly affects a student’s overall ability to read. However, often times reading fluency is not given the same importance in intermediate and upper elementary grades. This study was conducted to determine whether Lexia Core 5 or repeated reading interventions had a greater effect on reading fluency gains for third through fifth grade students in one rural, public school. Because of an increase in usage of online adaptive technology in the classroom replacing much of the paper and pencil work previously given as math homework, this study was designed to compare the growth rates in MAPS (Measurement of Academic Progress) math scores between a control group of 5th grade students who did not have access to online practice and a treatment group of students who were assigned online practice throughout the school year. This action research study investigated the improvement of reading comprehension by implementing two strategies: question generation and think aloud in the context of transactional instruction. A kindergarten class of 28 students at a charter school in east Michigan was used as an experimental group. The control group was made up of 27 kindergarteners from another class. All students, both in the experimental and control groups, were given a pre-test to track the application of all strategies before teaching began. In the United States, third grade students are expected to be fluent in the 100 basic math multiplication facts by the end of the school year. This research study examines the correlation between the effects of physical fitness scores on academic assessment tests. The study examines students’ PACER scores and what impact that causes with the MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) test. The study included a sample of 147 students from a large Midwestern elementary school of fifth graders. The study found that PACER scores seems to have a positive relationship with students’ MAP scores; that improving on the PACER does not show significant gains to show a connection between the two variables; that high BMI scores can indicate lower MAP scores and that lower BMI …

This action research study investigated the impact of visual formative assessments on the achievement levels of students with visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles. The study was conducted in four classes of freshmen at Southwest Christian High School in Chaska, MN, with a total of eighty-four participants. Two pairs were created for the study with control and treatment groups in each pair. Students were classified according to learning style, and a unit pre-test was administered to identify growth. This action research study investigated the connection between student choice and the levels of math anxiety exhibited in Geometry students at a Christian high school in the Twin Cities in Minnesota. The participants were 38 ninth, tenth, and eleventh grade students separated in three sections of Geometry. This study was conducted to see if providing choice would effectively combat the perceived stress and anxiety associated with math classes. This action research study investigated the effects of a social emotional learning plan implemented in a third grade classroom at a Christian school in an urban setting. Participants were seventy three third grade students. These students participated in a pre and post survey to determine the difference a social emotional learning plan may have on student behavior. The experimental group participated in five embedded social emotional lesson plans as well as weekly class meetings for a six-week period. The results of this study suggest that a social emotional learning plan benefits students in a behavioral way.

This action research project examined the relationship between parenting styles and mathematics achievement for middle school students at a small Christian school in the Midwestern United States. The participants were 22 fifth through eighth grade students and their parents. Students and their parents completed surveys measuring the parenting dimensions of demandingness and responsiveness, which were used to determine the overall parenting style in the home. Parenting styles determined by the surveys were compared to mathematics scores from the students’ most recent achievement test. This action research study investigated the effects of a Reading Workshop model in a high school English classroom in a private school in the Midwest. The participants were sixty-six juniors in a general education classroom. Students in the study took a pre-survey at the beginning of the year and a post-survey at the end of February to determine any changes in independent reading habits. Throughout the course of the study, students had choice in independent reading, which they kept track of and reflected on. The purpose of this action research was to study the continuum of the mathematics curriculum from the Middle Years Program (MYP) to the Diploma Program (DP) at an IB School in Jakarta, Indonesia. To investigate the continuum of the mathematics curriculum from MYP to DP, data from the assessments of each program was collected from 2014-2016. The participants in this research were 44 grade 12 students who had already taken the DP Mathematics external examination. This qualitative research study seeks to identify if peer support groups for parents with children who have disabilities are beneficial to the parents’ physical and emotional well-being. Previous literature has shown that parents of children with disabilities feel more knowledgeable, accepted, and empowered when they are able to share their successes and struggles with parents who are in similar situations.
