Project Panther LIFE students receive support from their Academic Mentors and Peer Coaches during the academic year. Repeated Readings To Promote Fluency For Students With Intellectual Disabilities, Christina Armada

Reading fluency is a skill that’s difficult for many students to acquire. However, research suggests that consistently implementing the Repeated Reading intervention can help students increase fluency and comprehension. The effect of this strategy when used to promote reading fluency in secondary students with severe intellectual disabilities has yet to be investigated. My research will examine the effect of the Repeated Reading intervention on the fluency level of students with intellectual disabilities in a public high school.

Media coverage and anecdotal evidence suggests that teacher job satisfaction has declined since the introduction of No Child Left Behind (NCLB). Does the data support this common narrative? By utilizing archival data, job satisfaction rates before and after the implementation of NCLB can be analyzed, and the legislation’s effects on elementary and secondary teachers can be compared to determine whether job satisfaction has actually decreased, and if this change has affected elementary or secondary teachers more. "This exploratory project is undertaken in relation to President Leath’s ISU 4U Promise, a new university-school partnership intended to promote college access for youth historically excluded from higher education. It uses the idea of scholarly engagement, which emphasizes moving theory to practice in collaboration with the communities who have potential to benefit. For my honors project, I prepared and taught lessons for adult language learners for the Level 1–2 English Class at Memorial Lutheran Church in Ames, IA. I initially intended to develop materials, such as flashcards and games, to be used along with my lessons to teach English to adult language learners; after teaching a few class sessions, though, I shifted my focus.
