The Use Of Pre-Correction By Pre-Service Teachers, Brook Heard Nov 2015

The Use Of Pre-Correction By Pre-Service Teachers, Brook Heard

Georgia Undergraduate Research Conference (2014-2015)

Theoretical Framework

The use of pre-correction strategies by pre-service teachers can, in theory, reduce the number of problem behaviors in the classroom, and greatly increase desired behaviors. By reducing the amount of problem behaviors through pre-correction, the pre-service teachers will spend less classroom time having to address the undesirable behaviors and instead, will be able to increase the amount of time he/she has to teach the lesson planned for the day.

Methodology Data

The pre-service teacher will choose a focus learner and identify a behavior that can be operationally defined such as, the focus learner getting out of his/her seat. …

Tight Super-Edge-Graceful Labelings Of Trees And Their Applications, Alex Collins, Colton Magnant, Hua Wang Nov 2015

Tight Super-Edge-Graceful Labelings Of Trees And Their Applications, Alex Collins, Colton Magnant, Hua Wang

Department of Mathematical Sciences Faculty Publications

The concept of graceful labeling of graphs has been extensively studied. In 1994, Mitchem and Simoson introduced a stronger concept called super-edge-graceful labeling for some classes of graphs. Among many other interesting pioneering results, Mitchem and Simoson provided a simple but powerful recursive way of constructing super-edge-graceful trees of odd order. In this note, we present a stronger concept of “tight” super-edge-graceful labeling. Such a super-edge graceful labeling has an additional constraint on the edge and vertices with the largest and smallest labels. This concept enables us to recursively construct tight super-edge-graceful trees of any order. As applications, we provide …

Student Athletes’ Perception Of Sexual Harassment, Lynn Hunt Long, Regina Rahimi, Delores D. Liston Nov 2015

Student Athletes’ Perception Of Sexual Harassment, Lynn Hunt Long, Regina Rahimi, Delores D. Liston

Department of Curriculum, Foundations, & Reading Faculty Publications

Purpose: This qualitative study examined the perceptions of student athletes regarding sexual harassment and other forms of gendered harassment (homophobic bullying) as well as knowledge of and/or experiences with harassment in high school and university settings, primarily in athletic school culture.

Methodology: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with twenty-seven former high school athletes/active university athletes. The data were analyzed regarding theme and their relationship to the reviewed literature.

Findings: Findings indicate that the athletic culture poses particular issues pertaining to the vulnerabilities and persistence of sexual bullying and harassment.

Discussion: Educators, coaches, and administrators must understand harassment, work to establish and …

Career Ready Or Rushed? Developing Career Exploration In Cscps, Catherine Hammond, Richard E. Cleveland Nov 2015

Career Ready Or Rushed? Developing Career Exploration In Cscps, Catherine Hammond, Richard E. Cleveland

Department of Leadership, Technology, and Human Development Faculty Presentations

While national focus on college/career-readiness has placed welcome attention on school counseling, overzealous emphases to pick a specific college and/or career can leave students feeling rushed. Broad school-wide or grade-level programs aimed at college/career preparation may trump individual career development. This session presents how to infuse career exploration into the current educational landscape (i.e., RTI, Common Core, etc.) via the multiple components of a Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling Program (CGCP): Foundation, Management, Delivery, and Accountability.

On The Stability Of Cycles By Delayed Feedback Control, Dmitriy Dmitrishin, Paul Hagelstein, Anna Khamitova, Alexander M. Stokolos Oct 2015

On The Stability Of Cycles By Delayed Feedback Control, Dmitriy Dmitrishin, Paul Hagelstein, Anna Khamitova, Alexander M. Stokolos

Department of Mathematical Sciences Faculty Publications

We present a delayed feedback control (DFC) mechanism for stabilizing cycles of one dimensional discrete time systems. In particular, we consider a delayed feedback control for stabilizingT-cycles of a differentiable functionf:R→Rof the form

x(k+1)=f(x(k))+u(k)

where

u(k)=(a1−1)f(x(k))+a2f(x(k−T))+...+aNf(x(k−(N−1)T)),

with a1+...+aN=1. Following an approach of Morgül, we construct a map F:RT+1→RT+1 whose fixed points correspond to T-cycles of f. We then analyze the local stability of the above DFC mechanism by evaluating the stability of the corresponding equilibrum points of F. We associate to each periodic orbit of f an …
