The purpose of this study was to understand the benefits of membership in the Future Farmers of America (FFA) student leadership organization among Tennessee FFA members by surveying members attending Camp Clements FFA Leadership Training Camp. The study focused on the fulfillment of FFA members’ basic human needs as defined by Abraham Maslow (1943). The three needs on which this study focused are: love and belonging, self-esteem, and self-actualization (1943). Generally, capstone courses focus on the integration and application of technical knowledge and skills acquired in previous coursework along with a consideration of multiple realistic constraints. However, capstone courses also require students to focus on a variety of professional skills, including teamwork, unstructured task completion, and project management. Because students are often new at these skills, they may find it difficult to resolve issues as they arise, particularly when working with an actual industrial client.

With the growing demands of water in California and the increasing cost of fossil fuels to operate water-cleaning equipment, Algae was cultivated in different concentrations of Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium (NPK) during different trails to identify the best growing conditions for the removal water contaminates. The purpose of this mixed method study was to assess the effectiveness of agricultural communications curriculum developed and incorporated into a semester-long agricultural leadership and communications course for secondary agricultural education programs in Arkansas. This study was comprised of three parts including a pilot test, teacher training assessment, and a descriptive field test over a two-year period. This phenomenological study explored the idea of “community” in the context of community supported agriculture (CSA). Data from interviews with shareholders and farmers as well as multiple participant observations over two CSA seasons, revealed community as an important part of the CSA experience for both shareholders and farmers. The most important aspect of this arguably countercultural community was the relationship between the farmer and shareholder. Recent, new instructorship of the senior-level beef systems management course (An S 426) presented the opportunity to conduct a thorough evaluation and potential revision of the course curriculum. The objective of this study was to conduct a structured, critical evaluation of the course using a modified Delphi method, and utilize the results to update course objectives and student outcomes. Based on stakeholder feedback, the course is implementing heightened emphases on business and financial planning in addition to the basic managerial principals in the beef production process.

Due to an ever changing world where technology seemingly provides endless answers, today’s higher education students must master a new skill set reflecting an emphasis on critical thinking, problem solving, and communications. The purpose of this study was to establish a departmental benchmark for critical thinking abilities of students majoring in agricultural education and studies.
