All school districts, regardless of geography or demographics, are faced with the need to adapt education to meet the needs of the rapidly-changing global economy. In order to fully understand such challenges and needs, schools must focus on defining an overall vision of college-and career-readiness. This session discussed the different aspects of building a college and career ready culture in your school and district. This presentation focuses on the transition of undecided high school students who are struggling with defining their next steps into the world of work. Special attention will be given to strategies related to students desiring a career in the trades or post-secondary vocational training. The number of Australians over the age of 65 years is expected to double by 2021. Many older Australians suffer from one or more chronic diseases - including cancer, coronary heart disease, respiratory diseases (AIHW, 2009) resulting in increased morbidity and mortality, lower quality of life and a higher need for health care (Hickey and Stilwell, 1991). There is increasing evidence that the adoption of healthy lifestyles can have significant benefits even into older age (Haveman-Nies et al, 2002).
