Evaluating E-Portfolio Using By Learning Stages: A Case Study In An Interdisciplinary Program, Ellis S.J. Fu, Jeff J.S. Huang, Stephen J.H. Yang, Anna Y.Q. Huang

This study conducts an investigation of posts in the e-portfolio platform of the program: “The interdisciplinary training program for talented college students in science.” Participants in this program were supposed to show their learning portfolios on this platform. Among the 2150 registered students, we randomly selected 126 students who have made at least 3 posts to become the target sample. By identifying the learning stages and posting styles shown by their posts, we find that students are mostly in the surface learning stages and weak in completing their learning portfolios. Professional development for teachers is a key mechanism for improving classroom instruction and student achievement, yet there is little empirical evidence upon which to damonstrate the connection between teachers’ professional development and students’ achievement. This paper focuses on preparing effective instructional design and technology professionals through field experiences. A graduate-level internship seminar combining academic learning and onsite experience of working as an instructional technologist was analyzed through the lens of situated learning theory. Using a convergent mixed-methods analysis, this study examined the nature of learning that takes place in authentic practice and how learning is shaped by immersing in real-world instructional technology settings. Inter-school collaborative learning (ICL) has significant meaning for bridging the educational gap between urban and rural schools. This study examines the effectiveness of three scaffolding conditions on learning outcomes in an ICL environment. One urban primary school and one rural school were selected to participate in the inter-school collaboration. Three 6th grade classes in each school were randomly assigned to one of three scaffolding conditions: lowest-coercion scaffolding (class A), highest-coercion scaffolding (class B), or adaptive scaffolding (class C). The purpose of this study is to investigate how the design features affect the players’ academic emotions in educational games. As a sample, 36 players were recruited to evaluate six electronic games on training players’ abilities to use the games. The researchers averaged their evaluation scores and considered related scales of three games concerning “Balance”, “Rescue” and “Gates of Logic.” Forty participants (19 female and 21 male) were tested on academic emotions and on the Learners’ Psychological Pleasure Scale. The Impact Of Outcome Intentions On Reading And Multitasking Performances, Lin Lin, Adrian Robertson, Jennifer Lee

This study investigated undergraduate students’ reading comprehension between two outcome intentions and three media multitasking conditions. The two outcome intentions were for accuracy and completion. The three multitasking conditions included silence, video background, and video test conditions. One hundred thirty university students participated in the study. Every participant completed two sets of reading, with two different intentions and in two different conditions. Results showed that the participants performed better in reading (a) when they strived for completion than for accuracy, (b) that the addition of an unobtrusive video (video background) did not inhibit the processing of the primary reading task, …

This study aims to investigate the effect of the users’ immersion experience, motivation, and learning outcomes in Second Life. The data collected for this study occurred over a 2 month period. Participants were 113 students taking classes in Second Life at a university. Their ages ranged from 18-22 years, with 47 participants as male and 66 as female. From the analysis of the collected data, the immersion experience and motivation have effects on the learning outcomes in Second Life. This case study reports findings from a four-month pilot project of one-to-one learning with iPads in four 9th grade Geography classrooms in a large K-12 school district in the United States. The findings of the study revealed many promising opportunities and technical challenges for both teachers and students. This study investigated the effects of gesture-based learning with virtual reality (GBLVR) on the counting ability of three children with Cerebral Palsy (CP). Those elected were the children who had difficulty with counting skills in the classroom. By attending GBLVR math courses, children with CP learned counting numbers from 1 to 10 intuitively by moving their body and interacting with the design made for them. This study contains two major parts. First, this study proposed a generic model for Educational Data Ming (EDM) studies by reviewing EDM literature and the existing data mining model. Self-efficacy has been shown to be an important element in the success of individuals in a variety of different settings. This research examined the impact of a two week new employee orientation training program on the general and social self-efficacy of newly hired direct care employees at state mental health facilities.
