Lakewood High School will accommodate the citizens of Lakewood by providing them with courses for credit and diplomas. Few boys in Lakewood yeshivas receive high school diplomas. While some have minimal amounts of high school credit, others have more and others have none. Girls receive diplomas, but are denied the opportunities given to regular students at our free public school for higher-level senior-year courses such as pre-calculus and government. Lakewood will allow yeshiva children to enroll in its distance education program currently in progress.

Young Adult Development In Hospitality Management Schools Which Offer Craft Based Learning, John C. Niser
John C. Niser
This research set out to examine the role of craft based education in hospitality management schools from a developmental perceptive. The first exploratory study found that craft based learning could not be isolated from the total learning environment in which students were developing adult thinking skills. The second investigation examined students from the same institution in the light of young adult development literature. Relativistic thinking was identified as a general area of agreement in the literature but the underpinning structural unity of this thinking skill could possibly be challenged. In the first school I conducted my study, interviewees did not …

How Design Can Get Kids On The Path To Tech Careers: A Conversation With Dr. Stephanie Pace Marshall, The Founder Of A New Type Of Science And Math Academy, Stephanie Marshall
Stephanie Pace Marshall, Ph.D.
An interview with Dr. Stephanie Pace Marshall about educational design and the design of the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy. "IMSA sought not only to develop decidedly different scientific minds, but also to develop a decidedly different residential learning community -- one that was nurturing and innovative, and one that instilled a sense of stewardship, and an obligation to give back. As a dynamic teaching and learning laboratory, IMSA continues to evolve, yet the roots of our founding ideas and goals remain."

The Power To Transform: Leadership That Brings Learning And Schooling To Life, Stephanie Pace Marshall
Stephanie Pace Marshall, Ph.D.
The Power to Transform is a call to re-conceive and re-design schooling. Rather than offer “best practices” or “prescriptive solutions,” it invites leaders of all ages and walks of life to think differently about learning and schooling. It illuminates the “why” and “what” of educational transformation and explores its deepest roots. It offers new language, new design principles, a new framework, and a new map for creating vibrant, imaginative and adaptive learning landscapes that integrate the dynamic properties of living systems with the generative principles of learning. It is from this natural integration that the new story of learning and …

Exploring Action Research As An Approach To Interactive (Participatory) Evaluation, Imran Anjum Chaudary, Shahida Imran
Dr Imran Anjum
This investigation seeks to understand "action research" as an approach to "interactive form of evaluation". The first half of the investigation illuminates the approach with the help of the particular bodies of scholarly literature and the second half draws attention to its application in the field with the help of an authentic evaluation plan. Action research evaluation, contrary to the traditional evaluation practice, challenges and shifts the paradigms by centralizing the practitioners in the knowledge production and by equalising the powers between evaluators and practitioners, thus, strengthens voice, organization and action. Despite its limitations or challenges, this form of evaluation …

Closing the achievement gap has been elusive for most of the Abbott districts in New Jersey. In order to help close the achievement gap in all districts, the NJ Dpartment of Education will be setting up seven field-based Regional Achievement Centers (RACs) that will work with failing schools in 2013. Lakewood High School was listed as a priority school, a school that will come under the closest scrutiny. Priority schools will implement eight turnaround principles to improve student performance, devolped largely from the experience of Union City. Union City is the one Abbott district that significantly narrowed the achievement gap. …
