A Survey Of Elementary School Technology Needs: A Needs Assessment, Shaun Kellogg Aug 2008

A Survey Of Elementary School Technology Needs: A Needs Assessment, Shaun Kellogg

Masters Theses

Given the potential of technology to enhance teaching and learning, there is little surprise that schools have been investing in technology. Unfortunately, technology has been and continues to be an expensive and ongoing investment. Recent federal mandates and public demand have led to increasing pressures on schools to show results and to justify such heavy expenses as technology. Sandy Grove Elementary has followed national trends in its recognition of technology's potential, its increasing investment, and its need to justify this expense with hard evidence. Sandy Grove is still in the early stages of its evaluation process and currently there is …

This text explored the educational possibilities of the implementation of Escuela Nueva, a contemporary progressive educational school model developed in Latin America. The proposed primary school in rural Uganda creates a situation to evaluate the need for theoretical change, from traditional to progressive pedagogy; to assess power issues, such as role of the teacher; to assess the issues of social justice and promotion of social justice, such as access to quality education; and finally critical reflection on identity. Impacts Of An Environmental Education Program On Participants’ Environmental Behaviors, Carolyn D. Reilly Sheehan May 2008

Impacts Of An Environmental Education Program On Participants’ Environmental Behaviors, Carolyn D. Reilly Sheehan

Masters Theses

Environmental issues are at the forefront of public scientific inquiry. There is a pressing need to change the way we do things in order to reduce the human impact on the environment (Brower, 1999; Bierbaum, 2007). Environmental education is one key for implementing change (Disinger, 1982). Ijams Nature Center’s “Living Clean & Green!” program was developed with this goal in mind (P. Beute, personal communication, September 11, 2007). Ajzen’s (1991) Theory of Planned Behavior and Hines, Hungerford, and Tomera’s (1987) model of Responsible Environmental Behavior were used in this study to determine if behavior change occurred among adult participants of …

The Benefits Of Integrating Math Content Into The Elementary Art Curriculum, Valerie C. Sigmon

Masters Theses

School accountability has become critical under the No Child Left Behind Act. As struggling schools strive to reach mandated proficiency levels, is it possible for an art teacher to contribute toward students‟ success by integrating math content into art lessons? This study attempts to show that without schedule changes, additional funding, or added training, an art teacher can support the efforts of classroom teachers as evidenced by increased scores on standardized math tests. The research used a Non-Equivalent Groups Design and examined pre-test and post-test scores for two groups of students. The population for this study is 3,800 elementary school …

How Does The Living-Learning Environment Affect Honors Students’ Perception Of Self, Others, And The Institution?, Janaan Mary Decker

Masters Theses

Research supports a positive relationship between living-learning communities and students’ academic accomplishments and personal development. Successful communities reflect the institution’s mission, and the institution’s purpose and goals are adapted for the student population the communities serve. Living learning communities provide a sense of belonging, which is critical for students to persist in college to realize their full personal and academic potential. With limited research concerning living-learning communities and honors students, it is difficult to determine which characteristics of living-learning communities positively affect honors students. This document examines the relationship between the living-learning community (Niemeyer Living Center) and honors students at …
