The Changing Nature Of The Adult Education Professorate: New Roles And Responsibilities In The 21st Century, Elice E. Rogers, Jonathan E. Messemer
Adult Education Research Conference
The purpose of this session is to discuss how the roles and responsibilities of the adult education professor have changed in the last 30 years and how the level of power has shifted amidst such change. An examination regarding the changing nature of faculty roles and responsibilities is important because faculty are now challenged in colleges and universities to operate under *market driven models (Kotler & Fox, 1995). In many institutions, faculty are micro-managed to become “organization” men and women, which greatly alters the teaching and learning contract we have with students; resulting in adult education faculty operating as brokers …

A Phenomenological Study Of The Educational Experiences Of Black Women: Learning As You Go, Eva Young, Mary Ziegler, Kathy Greenberg
Adult Education Research Conference
This research study provided a descriptive picture of educational experiences of three sets of Black sisters who grew up in the inner-city. A qualitative existential-phenomenological research study design was used to derive common themes that represented the universal essence of the participants’ experiences. This study illuminated the formal and informal learning experiences of Black women and the profound role cultural experiences of family and community play in shaping their learning experiences through adulthood. Findings suggest that the educational experiences of Black women influenced their development, voice, self-esteem, and self-defined achievement and success. These findings dispute adult development theories that suggest …

Organizational Change? Organizational Development? Organizational Transformation?: Why Do We Care What We Call It?, Jacqlyn S. Triscari
Adult Education Research Conference
This paper represents a literature review on the topic of organizational change. It argues that how we label a specific type of organizational change has an impact on how we both view the change and the potential outcome. The focus here is on transformational change—a change that occurs at the center core of the organization and results in substantial change to the center core of the organization, impacting the currently held beliefs and assumptions.
