A partir de una encuesta realizada a académicos en una universidad pública estatal, se midieron los niveles de satisfacción global y específica en el trabajo de los de tiempo completo que la contestaron. La satisfacción global en el trabajo fue alta, lo misma que la relativa a la docencia y autonomía individual. En contraste, los niveles de satisfacción fueron inferiores y bajos cuando se consideraron las actividades de investigación, desarrollo profesional, la participación de los académicos en la toma de decisiones académicas y aspectos contextuales al trabajo como evaluación, supervisión y salario. From Place To Place : School Location And Access To University Education In Victoria, Bob Birell, Virginia Rapson, Ian Dobson, Daniel Edwards, T Smith

This study investigates the VCE outcomes for Victorian Year 12 students by school sector and location, and the consequences for university selection. The key finding is that students in Victorian government schools are performing poorly at Year 12 level relative to their counterparts in the Catholic and other Independent schools. The overall median ENTER for Independent schools students was 84.20, compared with 69.65 for Catholic schools and 62.80 for government schools. The percentage of students who began Year 12 in 2000 and actually enrolled in a Victorian university in 2001 were 31% (Government), 48% (Catholic) and 60% (Independent).

Eminent scholar Harry Edwards (2000) has articulated three major realities of African American males in sports: a) The presumption of innate, race-linked black athletic superiority and intellectual deficiency; b) media propaganda portraying sports as a broadly accessible route to African American social and economic mobility; and c) a lack of comparably visible, high-prestige African American role models beyond the sports arena. Driven by labeling theory (Becker, 1963; Goffman, 1959), eight African American male student athletes were surveyed and interviewed. The last two points of Edwards' scholarship were investigated. The purpose of this paper is to attempt to synthesize and apply African American racial identity theory and related research to the development of sport and physical activity patterns and preferences in African American youth. Historically the African American over-representation in particular sports phenomena has been examined genetically, anthropocentrically, physiologically, sociologically, and psychologically.
