Evaluation of the first year implementation of the Museums and Public schools (MAPS) initiative is reported. The MAPS initiative is described in its original proposal in the following way: “Guided by the Chicago and Illinois academic standards, (MAPS) …will, over time, make museum resources a creative and integral part of classroom learning and teaching. In so doing, this partnership will enhance teacher knowledge and skills, enrich student educational experiences and advance the educational attainment of all children in Chicago’s public schools. In short, this collaboration is an investment in Chicago’s future.”

In the highly competitive event of pole vaulting, athletes must possess great gymnastic skills and they must also be great runners. For many years scientific research has demonstrated that final approach velocity in the pole vault is a significant component of vaulting success. The purpose of this study was threefold. First, a research-based procedure for the quantification and assessment of final approach velocity in the pole vault was developed. Second, a set of coaching guidelines describing the set-up and implementation of the procedure was presented. The study reported in this paper examines the impact of the Ohio Statewide Systemic Initiative (SSI) on participating mathematics teachers. Quantitative data from 90 SSI-trained teachers and 400 teachers without training, along with qualitative data collected from seven SSI teachers who were visited in their classrooms are presented. Analysis of the quantitative data showed that SSI and Non-SSI teachers reported significantly different frequencies of reformed teaching practices and held significantly different views about the nature and pedagogy of mathematics. Qualitative data from the interviews highlighted that the SSI professional development experience, the ability to find creative ways to overcome lack …

In order to have a better understanding or the Professional and Continuing Education in Hong Kong, the purpose of this research is to assess the job satisfaction or part-time English language teachers with respect to their work, pay, opportunities for promotion, supervision, and colleagues. The PCE departments in a total of six institutions with diversified characteristics, namely, Hong Kong University, Hong Kong Chinese University, Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, City University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education were involved in the present study.
