A Comparative Analysis Of Human Skeletal Remains From Parowan Fremont, Virgin Anasazi, And Kayenta Anasazi Archaeological Sites, Heidi Roberts Jan 1991

A Comparative Analysis Of Human Skeletal Remains From Parowan Fremont, Virgin Anasazi, And Kayenta Anasazi Archaeological Sites, Heidi Roberts

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

Human skeletal remains from the prehistoric Parowan Fremont, Virgin Anasazi, and Kayenta Anasazi cultural traditions are examined, to quantify differences in skeletal parameters and burial practices. Statistical comparisons show no significant differences in skeletal metric traits among the 125 individuals studied; While most individuals examined were healthy, the prevalence of periostitis, osteitis, and linear enamel hypoplasia was found to be highest among Virgin Anasazi individuals. Two other pathologies, porotic hyperostosis and cribra orbitalia, were most common among the Kayenta sample and least among the Parowan Fremont sample; From literature review and new data, much variability was found in mortuary practices ...

An Investigation Of Photon Correlation Spectroscopy Data Analysis Packages "Discrete" And "Contin" Using The Schulz-Zimm Distribution, Usman Abdul Aziz Qazi Jan 1991

An Investigation Of Photon Correlation Spectroscopy Data Analysis Packages "Discrete" And "Contin" Using The Schulz-Zimm Distribution, Usman Abdul Aziz Qazi

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

DISCRETE and CONTIN are standard data analysis packages used in Photon Correlation Spectroscopy for inversion of noisy autocorrelation functions. Their resolution was studied using simulated autocorrelation data based on the Schulz-Zimm distribution of polymer radii; Autocorrelation functions with various noise levels were fitted to both programs. The CONTIN output was compared with the original distribution. Autocorrelation functions calculated for broader distributions of radii yielded correspondingly broader functions in the radius space. Features like the skewness of the original Schulz-Zimm distribution were not recovered except in the case of narrow, approximately monodisperse radius distributions. Addition of noise was not found to ...

The Political Economy Of Iran: A Conceptual, Theoretical And Historical Analysis, Stacey Whitmore Hanlon Jan 1991

The Political Economy Of Iran: A Conceptual, Theoretical And Historical Analysis, Stacey Whitmore Hanlon

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

This thesis is a case study of the political economy of Iran from 1963 to the present. It analyzes the interactions of the political and economic spheres, and the effects of those interactions on political development within Iran. For Political development is viewed in terms of a system's capacity to respond to economic and political demands placed upon it by the population. Various theories of political economy are reviewed in the first chapter, and their applicability to Iran's system is discussed throughout the work. The interaction between existing economic and political systems in Iran, their transformation over time ...

The Exploitation Of Pipeline Parallelism By Compile Time Dataflow Analysis, Joseph Michael Lombardo Jan 1991

The Exploitation Of Pipeline Parallelism By Compile Time Dataflow Analysis, Joseph Michael Lombardo

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

The automatic and implicit transformation of sequential instruction streams, which execute efficiently for pipelined architectures is the subject of this paper. This paper proposes a method which maximizes the parallel performance of an instruction pipeline by detecting and eliminating specific pipeline hazards known as resource conflicts. The detection of resource conflicts is accomplished with data dependence analysis, while the elimination of resource conflicts is accomplished by instruction stream code transformation. The transformation of instruction streams is guided by data dependence analysis, and dependence graphs. This thesis is based on the premise that the elimination of resource conflicts is synonymous with ...
