A Study Of The Personality Types Of Presidential Scholars At The University Of Northern Iowa, Jennifer C. Miller

Presidential Scholars Theses (1990 – 2006)

As a Presidential Scholar, became interested in how those people who were awaded the scholarship differed in their personality types from those equally intelligent and involved people who did not. Thus, I decided to compare the personality types of the University of Northern Iowa Presidential Scholars to those members of Omicron Delta Kappa, which is the highest academic honorary society on campus. I chose to compare Presidential Scholars to ODK members because the ODK society emphasizes many of the same qualities as the Presidential Scholars Program: academics, leadership, and service. To become a member of ODK, a student must have ...

The present study examines the abusive parenting attitudes of three subject populations (self-referred, abusive, and custody) in a parent training group. All subjects were administered the Adult-Adolescent Parenting Inventory (AAPI) before and after the parenting group. The hypothesis that all groups would make gains on the AAPI following the parent training intervention was not supported, with the exception of one AAPI construct (family roles) for the abusive subjects. It was revealed that the self-referred and custody groups' scores were similar, both pre and post, on the AAPI. However, the abusive population differed from the other two groups, both pre and ...

Virtual Time Synchronization In Distributed Database Systems, Timothy E Lemaster Jan 1991

Virtual Time Synchronization In Distributed Database Systems, Timothy E Lemaster

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

Distributed systems synchronized by Virtual Time have been topics of recent interest. Virtual Time follows an optimistic philosophy relying on rollback for synchronization instead of abortion or blocKing Although many applications have been suggested as candidates for Virtual Time, few were simulated or implemented. This research reports on the first implementation and results of a Distributed Database Management System synchronized by virtual time. We argue that virtual time is a viable alternate concurrency control method for distributed database systems if its memory overhead can be absorbed.

The results were consistent with general findings that there is a significant negative correlation between ...

An Investigation Of Photon Correlation Spectroscopy Data Analysis Packages "Discrete" And "Contin" Using The Schulz-Zimm Distribution, Usman Abdul Aziz Qazi Jan 1991

An Investigation Of Photon Correlation Spectroscopy Data Analysis Packages "Discrete" And "Contin" Using The Schulz-Zimm Distribution, Usman Abdul Aziz Qazi

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

DISCRETE and CONTIN are standard data analysis packages used in Photon Correlation Spectroscopy for inversion of noisy autocorrelation functions. Their resolution was studied using simulated autocorrelation data based on the Schulz-Zimm distribution of polymer radii; Autocorrelation functions with various noise levels were fitted to both programs. The CONTIN output was compared with the original distribution. Autocorrelation functions calculated for broader distributions of radii yielded correspondingly broader functions in the radius space. Features like the skewness of the original Schulz-Zimm distribution were not recovered except in the case of narrow, approximately monodisperse radius distributions. Addition of noise was not found to ...
