This study investigated whether a practice session in the previously learned skill of reading a paragraph and answering inferential comprehension questions was more effective when conducted competitively or cooperatively.

One fifth-grade homeroom class of 28 students was randomly divided into two groups: a cooperative group and a competitive group, each containing students from three different reading levels. A researcher-made pretest determined that there was no significant difference between the two groups before the treatment. The attitudes of sixty-nine elementary education students toward science and science teaching were measured at three different times as they progressed through the Elementary Science Methods course at the State University of New York College at Brockport during the spring of 1991. The course was divided into two parts. During the first half of the semester, the students attended methods classes at the college. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the readability levels of three third grade stories, that are found within a reading text, fall below or above the publisher's indicated readability level.

The sample group consisted of 78 third grade children. They were assessed through the means of cloze tests. There were three different tests, each one containing a passage from the story in the text. Over the Mountain from the Impressions series was analyzed. The purpose of the study was to determine if there was a statistically significant difference in the quantity of words generated by kindergartners when retelling a story read to them from a book (read aloud) as compared to when a story was told orally, without a book (storytelling). This study was designed to examine the read aloud practices of elementary school teachers. It also looked at those practices in regards to the differences exhibited between the different grade levels, and the teachers' different philosophies of reading instruction.

Thirty-one teachers responded to a questionnaire designed to elicit their read aloud behaviors. The responses were recorded, tallied, and categorized according to the frequency and the similarities of the responses. These responses were then descriptively analyzed according to the three questions posed by the researcher.

An Investigation Into Teachers’ Attitudes Toward Their Own Writing Through The Use Of A Valid Writing Attitudes Instrument, Pamela Brady

This study investigated teachers’ attitudes towards their personal writing using the Linn writing attitude scale. The researcher classified twelve elementary teachers as either perceived positive (6) or negative (6) in their attitudes towards their writing. The researcher then evaluated the teachers using the Linn writing attitude scale to see if their scores matched the researcher’s initial perceptions. Two independent district personnel were chosen as interraters to evaluate the twelve teachers using the researcher’s methods in order to establish data reliability. Children learn to write at an early age, however, many children do not enjoy writing as an activity. This masters’ thesis investigates students’ opinions about writing, and compares the opinions of elementary students to those of middle school students. The author surveyed seventy-nine students from two 3rd grade classrooms and two 6th grade classrooms in western New York. The survey consisted of seventeen questions about how students felt about writing in the classroom. This project report describes the functions and responsibilities of an accreditation team leader before, during and after a three-day, on-site visit to validate an elementary school's self-study findings. The elementary school accreditation process for both host school and visitation team is described.

The evolution of the Michigan Accreditation Program as conceived by the Michigan State Legislature and current obstacles to the planned implementation in the Michigan elementary schools are review.

This study was undertaken for the purpose of determining if the siblings of gifted elementary students differ significantly from siblings of non-gifted elementary students in sibling affection, self-concept, or observable classroom behavior; and to investigate the relationship between sibling affection and self-concept, sibling affection and observable classroom behavior, and self-concept and observable classroom behavior.;The sample was selected from a large, urban school district located in the Mid-South.
