The Woman Doctorate, Her Doctoral Study, And Postdoctoral Career Development , Gillian Elliott Smith

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Increasing numbers of women are earning doctorate degrees each year, and women constitute an increasing proportion of new doctorate recipients, but women doctoral students and graduates are a small minority of all women, and a minority in almost all fields of study and work settings, which sets them apart as a group subject to a peculiar set of problems; The first study of women doctorate holders was made in 1930, yet this study has seldom been referenced by other researchers, and comparisons of more recent women doctorate recipients with their earliest counterparts have not been made. Despite subsequent research, the ...

An Analysis Of Selected Personal Factors Related To Effective Teaching In Secondary Schools , Earl F. Bridgewater

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

To accomplish this task, data were collected from three personality inventories which were administered to 177 stratified, randomly-selected teachers who had been evaluated as either meeting or exceeding district standards by their supervisors. The teachers represented various teaching areas, ages, and levels of educational training;Responses from the 177 subjects on each of the three personality inventories were subjected to three two-way multivariate analyses of variance. After computing the Manova, the Wilks-Lambda was ...

Seventy-two clients were obtained from a pool of undergraduate psychology student volunteers. Two graduate students majoring in counselor education served as the counselors and were trained to deliver the two counseling strategies. A four group design was used for the investigation. Clients were assigned at random to one of the two counselors and to one of the two counseling strategies. Each client was treated in one thirty-minute interview;Five dependent variables were identified to assess ...

Validating Measures Of Theoretical Constructs Useful In Examining College Persistence , Margaret Anna O'Toole Healy Jan 1983

Validating Measures Of Theoretical Constructs Useful In Examining College Persistence , Margaret Anna O'Toole Healy

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

This study examined persistence in college using the model proposed by Spady (1970) and modified by Tinto (1975) in which students must be adequately regulated by the institution's values and goals in order to achieve goal commitment and must be adequately integrated into the social system of the institution in order to achieve institutional commitment. The purpose of this study was to develop reliable measures of the concepts, goal commitment and institutional commitment, and to validate them in terms of whether or not they are useful in identifying direct-from-high-school students who will or will not satisfactorily persist from the ...
