The problem under investigation in this research was the effects of goals and expectations on participation in adult vocational supplemental education programs. The study used Boshier's Education Participation Scale (EPS) to test Cross' model for understanding participation in adult education activities;The study was conducted on preregistrants in adult vocational supplemental education courses at Des Moines Area Community College during the 1982 fall quarter. Based upon participation, preregistrants were divided into three groups--persisters, nonpersisters, and nonparticipants.
