Computerized instruction has captured the interest of many educators as a means of individualizing language study for their students. The quality of this individualization is maximally dependent on the degree to which a computer can understand what the student communicates to it usually by typing a message on the keyboard. The purpose of the study was to evaluate an instructional packet on supervised occupational experience (SOE) placement programs for vocational agriculture. The research procedure was experimental with a posttest control group design. The independent variable manipulated by the researcher was the degree to which teachers had access to the instructional packet. Food purchasing concepts were identified as the basis for developing the device. These concepts were product quality, food labeling, and shopping techniques. An achievement test was developed that assessed both lower and higher levels of cognitive achievement in personnel management of Coordinated Undergraduate Program in Dietetics (CUP-D) students. The major problem for this research was to identify differences in personality characteristics among secondary teachers classified by performance levels, with the intent of improving selection procedures. To accomplish this task, data were collected from three personality inventories which were administered to 177 stratified, randomly-selected teachers who had been evaluated as either meeting or exceeding district standards by their supervisors. The effects of the meta-model questioning strategy from Neuro-Linguistic Programming were compared to the effects of an empathic responding strategy in the initial counseling interview. Seventy-two clients were obtained from a pool of undergraduate psychology student volunteers. Two graduate students majoring in counselor education served as the counselors and were trained to deliver the two counseling strategies. A four group design was used for the investigation. Scholarship student-athletes entering Iowa State University in 1977 through 1980 to play football were matched to non-athletes by entry date, race, and major.
