In 1981 nursing homes and hospitals with less than 100 beds in Kentucky and Tennessee represented approximately 50% of the total number of these facilities. Little attention has been given in the professional literature to health care facilities of this size. Many small facilities have not employed persons with specialized education and training to manage the foodservice; thus food quality control methods may not be used. Research is needed to identify existing areas of quality control in order for needed improvements and changes to be made. The main purpose of this study was to investigate the differences between never-married men and women on a number of social-psychological variables. Specific attention was also given to a select group of sociodemographic variables. A secondary purpose was to examine the relationship between life satisfaction as a criterion variable and the other social-psychological variables as predictor variables.
The sample consisted of 30 never-married men and 30 never-married women, between the ages of 27-46. The average age of both the men and women was 31. Individuals had to be caucasian and currently "not cohabiting, not emotionally, sexually, or financially dependent on …

The purpose of this study was to analyze teacher evaluation instruments in use in Tennessee public school systems relative to type of instrument and content in relation to six school system characteristics. Differences were sought between school systems in relation to participation in teacher contract negotiations, per pupil expenditure, average annual teacher salary, method of selection of superintendents, type of school system, and size of school system in their choice of type of instrument and in the content of their instruments. This research focused on a comparison of clinical dietetic practice in hospitals and in public health agencies, and a comparison of clients' needs and problems in high-priority performance situations in actual practice with those anticipated for the future in Tennessee. Information about clinical practice was explored using role theory and systems methodology to relate concepts and processes in development.
Two surveys were conducted to obtain information about current practice and expectations for future events in Tennessee. Generally, the nature of clinical dietetic practice in short-term care hospitals and in public health agencies could not be differentiated by considering the nature …

The purpose of this report is to describe an internship conducted at the Michigan State Department of Education. The experience focused on gaining an understanding of the State Board of Education and Adult Extended Learning Services, a unit of the State Department of Education. The intern was also given the task of rewriting and updating one of the Department of Education handbooks: "Administrative Guide for Adult High School."

The internship was devoted to working with the superintendent as he implemented a plan to close schools, reassign students, and find a use for the closed buildings. This research expanded the study of psychological typology to the local firm Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Differences in type have been previously reported, based on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), resulting from both level of authority and area of specialization in Big Eight firm CPAs. This study utilized the MBTI and a Personal Data Questionnaire to identify types and accumulate data related to the independent variables of level and preferred area of specialization. The MBTI operationalizes Jung's type theory and reports 16 possible Jungian types which were the dependent variables in this study.

The purpose of this research project was twofold. First, to determine which, if any, information items, normally known about short duration out-of-house management training programs (seminars, workshops, etc.) prior to attendance, are indicative of educational merit. Second, to utilize this knowledge of educational merit indicators to test for a difference between the educational merit of out-of-house management training programs provided by (a) academic and (b) nonacademic instructional sources.
A total of 20 program characteristics were identified as indicators of educational merit by a review of literature and/or survey of corporate training officers. Six of these 20 indicators produced a difference …

This report summarizes a 15-week internship with Senior Services, Incorporated, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, served during the Spring and Summer terms, 1983.
The purpose of the internship was to acquaint the intern with the leadership performance, duties, responsibilities, and actions of the executive director and field supervisor in increasing and maintaining a low income minority senior citizen's nutritional outreach service. The objectives of increasing the number of low income minority senior citizen participants and prepared nutritional sites were the major emphasis of this internship. In addition, the intern was involved with proposal writing and the hiring of two outreach workers.

The objective of this experiential project was to examine the role and functions of the community school’s director in the summer school and enrichment elements of the total program.
Major areas that were examined were budgeting procedures, curriculum and programming, staffing and personnel, and facility utilization.
Through the investigation of these areas is was found that budgeting was based on a "break-even" philosophy. It was observed that curriculum and programming were in a constant state of search for improvement and variety based on community need. This study focused upon the amount of knowledge that elementary principals in schools holding membership in the Association of Christian Schools International have regarding primary reading instruction. The problem was based on the contention that the elementary principal is responsible for the instructional program in his or her school, and in order to offer quality supervision, he or she must be knowledgeable about curriculum.
Data were obtained from a research questionnaire completed by 220 principals and 1,065 elementary teachers. The questionnaire contained 40 statments relating to primary-grade reading. Seven categories of reading concepts were utilized: (1) word recognition, (2) comprehension, …

The Effects Of A Combined Weight Training And Running Program On Body Composition In College Males, Robert L. Hesslink Jr.

The present study attempted to investigate whether a combined weight and endurance training program can elicit more favorable changes in body composition than either method of training alone. Body composition parameters (absolute fat and fat-free weight) were evaluated using circumference measurements, skinfolds and hydrostatic weighing. Cardiorespiratory fitness was evaluated via a modified Harvard step-test. All tests were administered before and after 10 weeks of training. Exercises were performed 3 days/week for 40 minutes/day. Male volunteers (n=21) were randomly assigned to one of three treatment groups (weight training only, endurance running only, combined weight training and endurance running).

The study was an ex post facto exploratory field study designed to investigate the food-related behavior of husbands and wives of college and post-college married, childless couples ages 18 to 31. Respondents were or had been students at the University of Northern Iowa. The major purpose was to examine food-related behavior in social episodes.
The investigation was conducted in 2 phases. In Phase I, husbands and wives of 10 college and 10 post-college couples were interviewed individually to elicit food-related episodes and appropriate types of foods for those episodes. A survey of clinical dietitians in accredited clinical and generalist dietetic internships was conducted to construct a socio-demographic profile and to investigate influences on the counseling behavior of clinical dietitians. The Ajzen and Fishbein (1980) model was used to identify relationships between external variables, preparedness to use, attitude and subjective norm toward use, intention to use, and behavior toward use of counseling strategies. External variables included demographic characteristics, situational characteristics, and attitude toward targets. The five categories of counseling strategies were: assessment, educational, motivational, behavioral, and evaluation.

A career awareness unit on the fast food drive-in industry which includes specific lessons in the curriculum areas of reading, math, language arts, communication skills, health/science, social studies, and art. 2. This study evaluated a procedure for teaching three developmentally disabled adults to compute monetary change combinations. Also, the procedure assessed generalization to the skills of computing change with bills, verifying the correctness of change received, and computing change with both coins and bills. Subjects were first trained to make change using pennies and then were trained to use each successive denomination in combination with those previously trained. A multipleprobe design was used, including generalization probes of the above-cited skills. Results indicated that each subject acquired the behavior of change computation with coins as a function of the training procedure. Also, …

Problem. The problem of this study was to determine the importance of competencies within critical administrative task areas as perceived by selected elementary school principals. Methods. Participants for the study were randomly selected from a total population of 429 elementary principals serving schools containing kindergarten through grade six in the state of North Carolina. A questionnaire was mailed to the 250 principals selected to participate in the study. Of the returned instruments 187 were complete and used for statistical analyses, with the data being analyzed using the SPSS Statistical Package for the Social Sciences.
