Resource Allocation In The Government Schools Of Australia And New Zealand: A Summary Of The Reports Of The Staffing And Resources Study, John Ainley, John P Keeves, Phil Mckenzie, Andrew Sturman

Dr John Ainley

Issues of resource allocation to schools extend beyond the question of class size. Patterns of resource allocation are likely to be influenced by three continuing debates. One involves balancing equity in school staffing with encouraging diversity in school programs. Another involves the encouragement of devolution of authority to schools against a tradition of centralized political responsibility. A third centres on the debate about priorities among the many purposes of schooling. Schools now fill an expanded role which matches widening community expectations. Support for that role has implications for the level and type of resources allocated to schools. This book is …

An Analysis Of The Chinese National Examination: The Politics Of Curricular Change, Irving Epstein Mar 1982

An Analysis Of The Chinese National Examination: The Politics Of Curricular Change, Irving Epstein

Irving Epstein

Any assessment of recent educational change within the People's Republic of China (PRC) must take into account the swift and at times dialectical nature with which educational policies have been enacted. The range of policy shifts within the past 30 years, while paralleling to some extent, regime changes at the highest levels of leadership within the party and state bureaucracy, nonetheless is all the more remarkable given the immense size of the Chinese educational system. A total of 146.24 million children now enroll in formal primary schooling; 65.48 million enroll in a middle school program (Beijing Review, 1980). The initiation …

Trilce, Poema Xxxii, Marianella Machado Dec 1981

Trilce, Poema Xxxii, Marianella Machado

Marianella P. Machado

Poem XXXII, Trilce, written by the Peruvian poet César Vallejo, appeals to the sounds of words and onomatopoeic expressions (rather than to their actual meaning) to both move and shock the listener and make him/her aware of the particular situation the work presents. The extensive use of nonsense words and harsh sounds makes this work very difficult, if not impossible, to translate without altering the effect of the poet’s intention.

Two opposite dimensions are dealt with in the poem. The first, reality or the outer world, is symbolized by heat and warmth. It expresses chaos, oppression, injustice, and the absurd …
