Success in the content area is determined mainly by the degree to which students master important concepts. This grasp of concepts is the major goal of instruction in all the content areas regardless of the modes of presentation such as reading from a textbook, viewing a filmstrip, or listening to a lecture. Along with concept development, the subject matter teacher must recognize the importance of words, whether printed or spoken, to content area learning. Words and content are inseperable. Muckraking The School District: The Journalist’S Role In Reforming Schools, Amelia Arcamone

This thesis examines the role of the media—particularly journalists—in sparking school reform. The author paints a grim picture of struggling schools, attributing growing issues of school violence to poor administration, school secrecy, and corruption. She argues that increasing parental and community awareness is key to confronting the problems faced by the educational system and seeking solutions. Arcamone discusses her experience publishing critical articles about the Long Beach school system and the resulting community reaction. The protection of an abused child's safety involves identification, investigation and intervention. The responsibility of teachers and school personnel is to report suspected child abuse. Responsibility for investigation to develop definitive diagnoses and to provide treatment has been specifically assigned by law to other professionals. Teachers and other school personnel can be helpful in combatting child abuse because they have daily contact with most school children. The purpose of the study was to describe the relationship between participation in FFA activities and a member's personal development. The population consisted of Iowa twelfth grade vocational agriculture students who were members of the FFA. A cluster sample was utilized to randomly select 426 students in 54 schools in Iowa. The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics of adult and young farmer educational programs in Iowa. The research procedure was survey, with data collected by means of mailed questionnaire that was sent to selected educators in Iowa. The dependent variables were demographic data and respondents' importance scores for 55 adult and young farmer activities. A selected sample of 68 vocational agriculture departments operating school farms from the four-state region of Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska was utilized in this study. The primary purpose of this study was to assess the impact of an instructional packet on supervised occupational experience programs in regard to student work values after two and one-half years. A secondary purpose was to determine the relationship between work values of students and selected student characteristics.
