Content Analysis Of The Florida State Assessment Test And The Duval County Essential Skills Test, Carol V. Slack
Content Analysis Of The Florida State Assessment Test And The Duval County Essential Skills Test, Carol V. Slack
UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations
As stated before, both the Florida State Assessment Test and the EST measure the achievement of students on minimal objectives in the areas of communications and mathematics. One might therefore ask the question, “Why is there a need to administer both tests?”
It would seem that both tests evaluate similar subject areas. This study is designed to explore this similarity of test items. Its purpose is to examine the relationship between the tests in terms of the test items. It is assumed that if there is a high degree of semblance between test items, there may not be a need …

Reading: A Preprimer For Parents, Cheryl Gillikin Faubion
UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this project is to plan a booklet for parents which will provide them with some background information on the reading process and methods and approaches to reading instruction, along with some specific suggestions of ways they can help their children learn to read. Also included is a teacher's supplement for directions and suggested implementation. The booklet is designed for parents of students in the primary grades who are beginning readers. It is intended to be used in conjunction with a parent-teacher conference or a small group meeting of parents and teacher. It is hoped that the meeting …
Construction, Administration, And Validation Of A Test Of Oral Language Usage, Ronald Harrison
Construction, Administration, And Validation Of A Test Of Oral Language Usage, Ronald Harrison
UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations
We as teacher of English are faced with the task of preparing students for the world they will meet when they leave the classroom—a world that will judge them in part by their ability to manipulate the language to their advantage. And yet to measure the use of language, we rely almost exclusively on written measurements. It seems likely that students may easily learn to give the teacher the answer he wants on written tests of English usage. Oral tests are commercially available, but many are prohibitively expensive; others require hours of instruction before the teacher can consider himself qualified …
A Curriculum Unit To Provide Enrichment Activities For Talented Students In Biology, Mary Angela Gibson Morrissey
A Curriculum Unit To Provide Enrichment Activities For Talented Students In Biology, Mary Angela Gibson Morrissey
UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations
It is suggested in this paper that Mastery Learning Units can be successful in encouraging the talented students to excel in their interests and capabilities. The intent of this paper is to show how enrichment activities and centers can be easily implemented in the biology curriculum by the use of Mastery Learning Units. In so doing, only one mastery unit is included for the purpose of demonstration. It is suggested that teachers write the units that they will be using for their students. This would allow their units to fit their own particular objectives, as well as the needs and …

The purpose of this paper is to explain a curriculum package which was designed for science students at Orange Park IX, ninth grade center, Clay County, Florida. The target population consists of those students who read below the sixth-grade level according to the Stanford Achievement Test (SAT) scores and who are enrolled in a general science class. These students are also enrolled in a Reading Skills class and some are in the SLD and ED programs as well. Although there will be interaction with the reading, SLD, and ED teachers, the classes will not be team taught. Therefore, the science …
The Development And Implementation Of Units Of Nonverbal Instruction Which Increase Teachers' Nonverbal Behaviors, Malinda Garcia
The Development And Implementation Of Units Of Nonverbal Instruction Which Increase Teachers' Nonverbal Behaviors, Malinda Garcia
UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Nonverbal communication was not considered a science until 1950, after Ray Birdwhistell conducted extensive nonverbal research. Thus, the research on nonverbal communication in the classroom is still in it's pioneer stage. The purpose of this project was to increase kindergarten teachers’ awareness of nonverbal communication and its effect upon students. This pilot study emphasized four specific nonverbal behaviors: eye contact, touch, smile and proxemics. Research has found these behaviors to be true indicators of one's psychological state at the given time. It was believed that by increasing a teacher's nonverbal behaviors he could change students' immediate responses toward school.
