The study was designed to test the effectiveness of two visual aid treatments: Controlled Reader and Tachistoscopic-X machines on educationally handicapped students in elementary school. In addition, this study was conducted to test the effectiveness of such an instructional program on efficient eye-movements on the educationally handicapped student during the reading act.

The twelfth grade social studies in the Merced Union High School District had been traditional in its organization and structure until the mid 1960's. 10 At that time the district-began to encourage teachers of government to draft new goals and innovate new methods of instruction in the government curriculum. Three separate methods of teaching twelfth grade social studies emerged as a result of that encouragement. The study was designed to: (1) determine the expenditures for an individual basic mathematics program in the junior high schools using individual Learning Units, (2) determine the expenditures for a traditional, textbook-oriented approach to basic mathematics instruction, and (3) compare the achievement gains of the two programs. Null hypotheses related to cost-effectiveness stated that the operational cost per unit gain, and the sum of the developmental and operational cost per unit gain of the ILU program would be greater than the cost per unit gain of the traditional approach. The Problem: Little empirical data exist on the effects of the college experience. The Introductory Year Program at the College of the Pacific is based on the assumption that student development within the freshman year is of vital importance. This study investigated the differential effectiveness of the Program in terms of individual student expectancies, characteristics, and growth in intellectual disposition.
PROCEDURES: Initial data were collected from entering freshmen as a part of the Orientation Program. Often it is the case unified school districts do not have optimum internal communications. "'Today school personnel, including administrator, often 'confound' their own language by failing to communicate adequately and effectively or by communicating unintentionally in a manner that is detrimental to them and the schools with which they are associated."

It was the purpose of this study to investigate and compare relationships which exist between the tested creative behavior or eleventh and twelfth grade continuation high school students and their counterparts in a comprehensive high school. Creativity scores were obtained for each of three ranked IQ groups of students tested at each of the two participating schools. Creativity scores were obtained for each of the four creative ability factors, Fluency, Flexibility, Originality, and Elaboration as measured by the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking, Figural--B.

Problem: Kelley's "Teaching Information Processing System (TIPS)” provides informative feedback (IF) from non-credit quizzes to students, teaching assistants, and instructor. Differentiated assignments are made according to quiz results. TIPS classes achieve reliably higher midterm scores than control classes in introductory economics; no final examination comparisons have been reported. TIPS may be an important contribution to educational technology, but questions may be raised about (1) the contribution of quizzes-cum-feedback-to-students to achievement, as measured by the. Test of Understanding in College Economics (TUCE), and (2) the effects of the interaction of personality variables and informative feedback (IF) intervals on achievement.

The general purpose of this study was to determine why students change their majors in colleges and universities having an enrollment between one thousand and five thousand students The specific purposes were: (1) to determine if the deans' and advisers' perceptions of why students change their majors at the college level are congruent with the students; perceptions, (2) to determine what colleges are doing to minimize the charges in majors, (3) to determine if students were satisfied with their changes in majors, and (4) to determine how many students made changes in their majors.

This study investigated the relationship between the selected variables of socioeconomic status (SES), race and sex of seventh grade students as measured by the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking. The Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking, Verbal Form A and Figural Form B were administered to 192 seventh grade students. Fouty-eight Asain, 48 black, 48 Spanish surnamed and 48 white students, each equally distributed across the SES levels were chosen using a partially stratified random sampling procedure. Half of each group was male. The data were analyzed using a three way analysis of variance procedure.

Francis Wayland Parker was one of the earliest American educators of national prominence to advocate what has come to be known today as progressive education. He was in total support of the common school concept, helped from the earliest, formal child study association in America, promoted the institution of kindergartens, and stressed the need for a child-centered, correlated curriculum organized around the natural and physical sciences. The U-shaped relationship between age and interpersonal distance was surprising. The human infant’s need for physical contact to ensure healthy development has been well established. Developmental studies indicate that by kindergarten age, children are playing cooperatively with each other. It was expected, then, that the younger children would maintain a close physical relationship with their peers, with this distance widening as a function of age and acculturation until adult norms were reached. This study was designed to determine whether any significant changes occurred concerning the feelings of alienation and educational power locus perception among low-income persons who participated in a Community Action Program. The study was also conducted in such a manner as to show if there was a significant difference in a sense of powerlessness and power locus perception between citizens who did participate and those who did not participate. Additionally, tests were performed to determine if there were significant differences between black, brown, and white citizens.
