To Praise And Ignore Classroom Behaviors, Or To Praise And Punish Classroom Behaviors: That Is The Question, Luther M. Kindall

Doctoral Dissertations

The present study involved an experimental analysis of behavior in which the relative efficacy of two behavioral management strategies and their functional relationship to three dependent behaviors (appropriate, time-off-task, and disruptive) were examined. One strategy involved verbally praising appropriate behaviors while concomitantly ignoring disruptive behaviors. The other strategy involved verbally praising appropriate behaviors while concomitantly softly reprimanding disruptive behaviors. The study also incorporated two adjunct investigations. These involved examining the rates of acceleration and deceleration of appropriate and disruptive behaviors during treatment and reversal phases, and examining the teacher's reactions to the two strategies.

The Relation Of Visual Fixation And Pursuit To Posture In Four Month Infants, Nancy M. Fieber Aug 1973

The Relation Of Visual Fixation And Pursuit To Posture In Four Month Infants, Nancy M. Fieber

Student Work

The frozen posture of a young child as he visually attends to something of interest, or the very young infantTs wide open eyes and mouth as he fixes on a stimulus, illustrate dramatically the close relationship between the visual system and the total action system. The two appear to be inseparable and interdependent.

When vision is impaired, control of posture may be impaired as evidenced by the typical delay in head righting in prone and all-fours postures of the blind infant. (Gesell and Amatruda, 1941; Gesell et al, 1949) In other children with severe visual impairment a peculiar head posture …

The Legal Status Of The Virginia High School Principal In Maintaining Pupil Discipline, Barry Jason Last

Master's Theses

This study will determine the legal position of a Virginia high school principal with respect to discipline. Is his position hindered continuously by court rulings? Many principals state that they cannot discipline effectively with the courts "breathing down their necks."

In comparing the questionnaires received from Virginia principals with a case law study of pupil control decisions, the question of legal limitations on the principal's authority may be resolved. Within the question of limita- tions, the determination of the legal points which either are not known or not understood by Virginia high school administrators can also be ascertained. As a …
