Motivation To Creativity: Responsibility Of The Elementary Teacher, Charolette Ann Duckett May 1968

Motivation To Creativity: Responsibility Of The Elementary Teacher, Charolette Ann Duckett

Honors Theses

The purpose of this paper shall be to explore the nature and characteristics of creativity and to try to understand what atmosphere and discipline best motivates children to be creative.

Creativity has been termed synonymous with inventiveness, imagination, and originality. In the educational viewpoint, there are other, more complete ways to define this word. Creative teaching once meant correlating art, music, writing or dramatics with other subjects. Now, however, it has been expanded to cover more than in the past. Morse and Wingo discuss creativity as "seeing or expressing new relationships."

Problems Teachers Face While Teaching In Mixed Racial And Ethnic Classrooms, Linda Lee Hearn

God taught us an important lesson: when communication stops, progress is halted. Today as then, differences not understood and a lack of communication can cause a stopping of progress.

In today's world of change, the classroom becomes the only true melting pot of our nation. As more and more peoples are brought together, the need for teachers who are able to function in such situations, becomes greater and greater. There can be no hard and fast rules for the handling of situations since the number of possible problems and occurrences surrounding them is infinite; but it must be realized that …

Honors Theses

It is in the classroom that a child has to first accept the authority of a relative stranger. This stranger, the child's teacher, rarely realizes the profound impact that her attitude, demands, and actions make on that child.

One area in which the classroom teacher wields a frightening amount of influence is in the personality development of her students. It is imperative that the teacher be happy in the profession and that she like children if she is to have a positive effect on them. Too often a student discovers that she isn't suited to classroom teaching only after she …

Modern Mathematics In Secondary Education, Sandra Lee Sawyer Jan 1968

Modern Mathematics In Secondary Education, Sandra Lee Sawyer

Honors Theses

Until recently, the mathematics curriculum in elementary and secondary schools had been relatively unchanged for a century or more. While both elementary and secondary school programs are undergoing special studies, the most extensive curriculum projects to date have been focused on the secondary school.

First, let us consider the purpose of modern math. There has been much criticism about changing from the traditional math to the modern math. As mathematician Allendoerfer explains: "More than anything else, the new math is a new approach to old ideas, a mixture of intuition, deduction, and application."
