This author presents the concept that the basic mechanical drawing course at Pueblo Community College is no longer relevant to the graphics skills required in industry and should not be a prerequisite in the civil engineering technology curriculum. A review of literature reveals that basic mechanical drawing courses are not routinely integrated into civil engineering technology programs in the Colorado Community College System. The literature shows that the majority of programs in the community college system utilize computer aided drafting as the prerequisite. From conception, the male and female brains develop differently. Due to these differences, current research shows methods of teaching should be examined and modified to accommodate both genders' learning needs. Educating teachers on the brain diversities between the genders is essential for opportunities in establishing a positive classroom atmosphere. In this research project, the author presents a curriculum for a Philosophy 101 college course that implements active learning techniques to enhance and motivate student learning. Teaching introductory philosophy is a difficult task due to the intricate nature of the subject matter. Teachers must discover instructional strategies that transmit philosophical knowledge more effectively beyond the employment of traditional teaching methods, such as a lecture, to their students. This research project, utilizing both primary and secondary sources, provides teachers with effective methods and activities to develop literacy in a monolingual classroom for English as a second language (ESL) students. The literacy methods and activities within this research project are broken into the five components of reading (phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension) and writing. The conclusion of this research project provides teachers with the necessary steps to enhance literacy instruction for ESL students.

English Language Learners struggle on a daily basis upon entering United States schools. The delivery of ELL content has been addressed on a regular basis; however, the design of ELL curriculum does not receive adequate attention. In this project, the author created a Power Point presentation that assists educators with a foundation of origin for ELLs, addresses the need for concentration of ELL curriculum development, reminds the audience of textbook bias, and presents a variety of coteaching models. The presentation is designed for elementary educators, although it may be adapted to any level.

A Mentor Program To Improve Performance And Retention Of Customer Service Representatives, Colette R. Garcia

The purpose of this project was to add an additional tool to supplement classroom training for customer service representatives (CSRs) at a large insurance company. Research has shown that customer service survey results are negatively impacted by a lack of knowledge and experience in CSRs. A mentor program was designed to provide new CSRs with support immediately after completion of formal training, which allows them to gain experience, knowledge and confidence in a protected environment, before joining the customer service unit.
