The purpose of this project will be to develop a handbook for elementary classroom teachers to be used as a reference guide to assist with the teaching and instruction of children with exceptionalities. The author of this handbook will identify best practices which are based on research. These best practices and recommendations can be immediately implemented in the classroom, based on the teacher's observations of the student's behaviors and. The purpose of this handbook is not to replace special education assistance in regard to students with exceptionalities, but would be used as a supplement to teacher expertise and guidance.

An Immigrant English Language Learner (ELL) encounters many new and different experiences when they enter high school. This transition can lead to a sense of loneliness and isolation if the student is not comfortable. However, if ELLs feel welcomed, valued, and connected to others, the high school experience can be a positive one. This research project was designed to use a personal presentation learning tool as a way to establish a needed social connection between ELLs, school staff, and native speaking peers as a way to enhance personal relationships, promote cultural understanding, and connect students to their new setting.

The purpose of this project was to develop a manual for elementary school teachers and parents with background knowledge in reading that summarizes what researchers have discovered about the methodology of reading instruction and provide approaches and strategies to teach the five components of reading instruction. The guide focused on phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension instruction. Each component of reading defines skills, reviews evidence from research, suggests implications for classroom instruction, and describes the various strategies for teaching literacy skills that are so essential to the reading achievement of children. A teacher in-service presentation was developed that sought to improve the education of students with disabilities through teacher communication and education about pertinent strategies. The program presented is titled "Agreed To Succeed". The "Agreed To Succeed" program is based upon the three I's: (a) initiating communication, (b) integrating learning, and (c) incorporating strategies. In the presentation, teachers were offered an approach to opening communication among teachers, students, and staff. Additionally, strategies were presented to encourage teachers to modify curriculum for their students with disabilities in their classrooms.

Gifted, bright, unusual, struggling, and special education students are all intermixed in classrooms today. As a result, teachers are expected to differentiate their instruction to meet the varying needs of these students. Unfortunately, the training teachers receive is often inadequate. Experienced and inexperienced teachers have different needs. In this project, the author attempted to solve this problem by designing a staff development workshop that is broken into two sections.
