Instructional Strategies That Foster High School Students’ Achievement In Blended Learning, Cindy Fuhrer Jan 2021

Instructional Strategies That Foster High School Students’ Achievement In Blended Learning, Cindy Fuhrer

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Blended learning has become an alternative method to promote student achievement in a technology-orientated society. Students enrolled in blended learning classes in a midwestern suburban high school are outperforming students in the traditional face-to-face classes on standardized tests, yet there was little information about the instructional strategies used in the blended learning classroom that result in higher student achievement. The purpose of this qualitative instrumental case study was to explore what instructional strategies were implemented to foster student achievement in a successful high school English and social studies blended learning program. The focus of the study was to understand which …

Faculty Perceptions Of The Use Of Virtual Learning Environments In Introductory Biology Courses, Whitley Shaina Webb

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Blended learning (BL) and virtual learning environments (VLEs) are innovative approaches that many higher education instructors are using to promote student success and learning in introductory biology courses. However, research does not provide insight into whether specific VLEs such as Mastering Biology (MB), are useful or effective in increasing student success. The purpose of this basic qualitative research study was to explore the experiences and perceptions of higher education introductory biology instructors regarding the use of BL and MB to promote student success and learning. The theoretical framework for this study was connectivism, based on the work of Siemens. Research …

Instructional Strategies Within A Blended Learning Model For At-Risk Students, Kim Marette Zeydel

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Many at-risk students attending an alternative high school in a northwestern state were not graduating on-time even after a learner-centered blended learning model was implemented. The administration and teachers sought to understand why the change to a learner-centered program was only slightly increasing the graduation rate each year. The purpose of this qualitative case study was to explore how the learner-centered instructional strategies used within a blended learning model were being implemented and supporting at-risk students. Weimer's learner-centered framework was used to ground the study and guide the research questions which examined teacher and student perspectives about the learner-centered instructional …

Vocational Instructors Experience And Practice Teaching In The Hybrid Environment, Christine Cusano Jan 2018

Vocational Instructors Experience And Practice Teaching In The Hybrid Environment, Christine Cusano

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

At a technical post-secondary school in the Northeast United States, campus leaders lacked formative data of faculty skills and knowledge needed for instruction in a hybrid format involving both face-to-face instruction and on-line instruction. Therefore, the delivery of appropriate professional development (PD) programs for faculty whose duties include hybrid format instruction has not been provided. The purpose of this study was to identify the faculty experiences of teaching in a hybrid-learning environment, and their perceived PD needs to provide effective instruction in a hybrid-learning environment. This study explored vocational teachers' experiences and perceived PD needs related to teaching in a …
