Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a model delivery system for education services in the California Youth Authority (CYA). The model included a model administrative organization, a financial model, and a support services model. Procedures: (1) Related literature was reviewed to establish principles regarding administration and organization, finance, and support services in correctional education. These principles were then compared with existing conditions in the CYA. (2) A questionnaire was administered to CYA staff to determine which of seven proposed administratjve models best met thirteen pre-determined criteria. The purpose of this project was to investigate whether there was a significant difference in the adherence to conventional morality and the reaction to social pressure from adults versus peers among Mexican, Mexican-American, and Anglo-American children. The instrument used was the Moral Dilemmas Test (MDT) developed by Bronfenbrenner, Devereux, Suci, and Rodgers, which measures the reported readiness of children to engage in morally disapproved behavior and their reaction to social pressure exerted by adults and peers. Perceived locus of control is a personality construct derived from Julian Rotter's social learning theory. The primary problem addressed in this study involved integration of the finding of the vast body of reading literature to determine if college and university reading-study programs generally prove beneficial to those participating in them. Included within this question were the following sub-problems: (1) For what student groups were college reading-study programs designed? Were programs designed to fulfill remedial/corrective, supportive, developmental or other as yet unspecified functions?; (2) What program content and program operation factors were identified within program reports?; and (3) What relationship, if any, exists between these program content and operation factors and reported program effects?

Purpose: This study was designed to investigate the effect of pairing cognitive training, developed from Piaget's theory, with perceptual training on reading achievement. Also investigated was the effect of cognitive and perceptual training by themselves, as well as that of a cont:col group on reading achievement. A second purpose of this study was to investigate whether or not perceptual errors would be reduced by pairing perceptual and cognitive training as opposed to perceptual, cognitive or control training alone.

This study to determine whether there was a relationship between the language orientation of Chinese-American primary-grade children in the San Francisco Unified School District and their racial/ethnic attitude. Generally, Chinese-Americans are monolingual Chinese speakers (MCS), monolingual English speakers (BECS). These three linguistic groups of Chineses-American children were compared in this study to determine the existence of a language orientation-racial/ethnic attitude relationship. A review of the literature shows that 1) language, thought, and perception are interrelated, 2) racial attitudes are significant factors in American society, 3) attitudes and behavior are interrelated, and 4) children develop racial/ethnic attitudes at an early age. …

Originated by current demands for accountability in schools and resultant appeals for a return to the use of scholastic feedback, this study investigated the effects of feedback in light of certain characteristics of learning, and in light of student characteristics such as ability, age, and sex. The purpose of the study was to investigate the impact of specific informational feedback on hierarchical learning in a controlled laboratory setting, using the experimental controls inherent in identical twins.
