The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationship among self-concept, racial identity development, and perceptions of the graduate and professional educational experience of African American female college students planning to pursue advanced degrees. The researcher explored the relationship among the factors to determine if they were predictive of the pursuit of advanced degrees among African American female college students. Old Dominion University's Peninsula Center, in Hampton, Virginia, was the location for an ethnographic case study about the urban "distributed university" centers that provided instruction via video teleconference (VTC). Graduate engineers attended VTC classes at the Peninsula Center originating from five Virginia universities as part of the Commonwealth Graduate Engineering Program.;The purpose of this study was to describe VTC instruction and identify aspects that impacted on student learning, faculty teaching, and the socio-cultural environment. The purpose of this study was to examine the degree of success or failure of three Virginia community colleges to establish viable educational foundations and to identify the characteristics enabling them to do so.;Studying Virginia community colleges provided an opportunity to observe fund-raising efforts made in the state where government appropriations decreased the most (during the period 1990-94) and, therefore, had the greatest potential effect. The purpose of this historical study was to evaluate the consequences that the politically-determined conventions of academic freedom in Germany and in the United States had on the careers of four elite scientists before and after their emigration resulting from the threats of Nazism. The intent of this study was to explore constituent utilization of power and authority over time that led to systemic dysfunctions in the governance of intercollegiate athletics, and to examine the needs motivating the interested constituents, thus suggesting alternatives for reform.
