An Examination Of The Impact Of Changes In The Administrative Organizational Structure Of Selected Community Colleges On Workload Of Division Chairmen, Sandra Dale Hobbs

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between changes in the administrative organizational structure in community colleges and the workload of division chairmen. Changes in administrative organizational structures were characterized by structural complexity variables, primarily horizontal and vertical differentiation. Division chairman workload was analyzed, and division chairmen were described by demographic characteristics and employment patterns.;The division chairman has been identified in the literature to be a critical middle management position whose increasing workload is an issue. The problem statement for this study asks which characteristics of the community college environment are the best discriminators between faculty who currently use computers in instruction and those who do not. Specific research questions ask whether the environmental context of the faculty or individual faculty attributes are better discriminators between computer uses and nonusers.;The target population was the full-time faculty employed in the Virginia Community College System. A sample of faculty in 15 colleges was selected in which approximately half had used computers in their instruction. The purpose of this study was to investigate the educational conditions existing for women students during the initial years of coeducation at an institution. The choice of the University of Virginia as a case study was based on its significance as a southern, state university which claims, in addition, national visibility.;A questionnaire was administered to a small sample of first-female students who attended Virginia between the years 1970-1974. The questionnaire, developed from an original set of interview questions prepared by Virginia's Student Affairs office in a 1971 study, asked the sample to respond, retrospectively, to conditions existing at Virginia while …

The purpose of this study was to describe the budget information systems of selected colleges and universities in the Commonwealth of Virginia along with their advantages and disadvantages as perceived by budget managers.;Ten institutions were selected to participate in the study so as to assure the inclusion of at least one of each of the various types of colleges and universities in Virginia. The purpose of this study was to determine if a statutory higher education consortium possesses the attributes generally associated with effective voluntary higher education consortia. The purpose of this study was to determine the extent to which colleges and universities that have changed significantly have taken a planned approach to marketing their institutions through their external communications. "Changed image" institutions are defined as those degree-granting institutions that have changed name, sex status, or number of years of instruction offered within the past two decades since 1966. The sample contained six public and six private institutions--two public and two private institutions in each category.;Publications of various divisions of the institutions were analyzed for consistency of image presentation.
