This study concerned job attitudes of faculty in higher education. The need-satisfaction model of job attitudes served as a conceptual framework. The purposes of the study we to: (1) examine the need-satisfaction and job-satisfaction linkage in the need-satisfaction model and (2) determine the effects of two job characteristics and eight personal characteristics on need fulfillment of faculty. The job variables were academic discipline and type of employing institution. The personal variables were age, length of teaching experience, level of education, locus of control, pay, rank, sex, and tenure status.;The sample consisted of full-time teaching faculty from three types of higher …

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of an interaction between pacing and cognitive style upon student achievement and attitude in a basic mathematics college course. It was hypothesized that student characteristics and alternative teaching methods interact to produce differential effects on academic achievement, withdrawal rate, pacing rate, and attitude. A Posttest Only 2 x 2 factorial design was used in this study with teaching method (instructor-paced and self-paced) as one variable and cognitive style (field-dependent and field-independent) as the other.;The original sample consisted of 318 prospective students who were administered the Group Embedded Figures Test (GEFT). …

The purpose of this study was two-fold: to design, implement, and evaluate a program for training faculty advisors, and to analyze in conjunction with the training program whether certain variables were having any impact upon the subject institution's advising system.;An Advisor Training Program was developed and given to a randomly selected group of faculty advisors. The effects of the program were measured by objective post-tests given to both experimental and control group of advisors. The purpose of this study was to trace the development of the relationship between the William and Mary College identity and its environment during the period 1865 to 1919. The pivotal point in the work was 1888, at which time the College experienced a revolutionary change in mission from liberal arts education to teacher training. The purpose of this study was to trace the history of governance of Lee College, Cleveland, Tennessee, considering the influence of pentecostalism, particularly as stressed by its sponsoring denomination, the Church of God. Consideration was given to possible accommodations and complex influences which impacted on the pentecostal position of the College, differentiating secular/academic standards from clearly pentecostal standards.;It was hypothesized that Lee College would be highly influenced by the conservative pentecostalism of the Church of God that the decision-making process would reflect this influence.
