Researchers have studied various factors affecting student achievement ranging from school location to parental socioeconomic status. The study that follows examines whether the socioeconomic status of a school locality affects student achievement on standardized tests, particularly results on the 2002 Standards of Learning tests. For purposes of this study, the socioeconomic status of a school locality is referred to as the Composite Index Local Ability to Pay, or Composite Index Score (CIS). One of the purposes of this study was to examine types of classroom management methods used by regular education teachers and special education teachers. Another purpose of this study was to·investigate which management strategies were the most successful and unsuccessful in regular education and special education classrooms . The subjects of this study included 96 elementary school teachers (N=96) from four counties in the state of Virginia. A self developed questionnaire, containing a Likert-type scale in Part A and open-ended questions in Part B, was used to collect data for this study. The subjects in this study were 129 general educators from elementary schools in Virginia. These subjects all had at least one student with learning disabilities in the classroom. A researcher-developed, three part survey was used to collect the data . The survey examined relationships among factors influencing teachers' decisions to make accommodations and the actual accommodations that were employed in the classroom.
The results revealed several accommodations which were frequently implemented in the classroom by the general educators. These teachers often gave oral tests to students with learning disabilities, allowed the students to work in pairs, and individualized the assignments …

The research of the past two decades has resulted in a proliferation of information regarding the various reasons for dropping out of school and the characteristics of dropouts. Little has been done, however, to examine the life outcomes of those who have dropped out, or of how various treatments effect those outcomes . This is also true for those youth who are still in school, but who have become academically disengaged.
