Treatment Techniques To Encourage Lip Closure And Decrease Drooling In Cerebral Palsy, Kim M. Samelstad
Masters Theses
This study was designed to test the effectiveness of oral sensorimotor techniques in decreasing drooling. A withdrawal a1-b-a2 design was used with two subjects diagnosed as having mental retardation and cerebral palsy. The baseline phase consisted of 20 minute sessions of play, followed by a 45 minute period during which the subjects wore a bib. The treatment phase was identical to the baseline phase except that the 20 minutes of play was replaced with 20 minutes of treatment. The treatment techniques that were used included the following: light touch to the midline of the lips, maintained pressure …
Progressive Tennis Skills Test Developed For College Physical Education Classes With Varying Levels Of Play, Joe M. Williams
Progressive Tennis Skills Test Developed For College Physical Education Classes With Varying Levels Of Play, Joe M. Williams
Student Dissertations & Theses
The purpose of the present investigation was to develop a reliable, valid and objective skills test for college physical education tennis classes which had students of varying ability levels. The subjects (N=50) were randomly divided into two groups based on whether they were experienced or inexperienced players. The tennis skill variables tested were consistency, depth, serve, forehand, backhand, and volley. Stability reliability was estimated at .94 p<.05. Concurrent validity was estimated by correlating the average ratings of three experts with the first and second administrations of the test. Concurrent validity was estimated at .92 p<.05. Construct validity was estimated at the p<.05 level showing a significant difference in the two groups. Objectivity estimates were found to be p<.05 when the test was administered by another instructor. The Progressive Tennis Skills Test proved to be reliable, valid and objective for college physical education classes with students at varying ability levels.
Alcoholism Treatment And Its Effect On Subsequent Health Care Costs: A Medicaid Study Of Cost Differences By Treatment Setting, Edmund Paul Kemp
Alcoholism Treatment And Its Effect On Subsequent Health Care Costs: A Medicaid Study Of Cost Differences By Treatment Setting, Edmund Paul Kemp
Dissertations
In an attempt to slow and reduce this nation's costs for alcoholism services under the Medicare and Medicaid programs, the Health Care Financing Administration and the National Institute on Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse in 1981 collaborated and jointly developed the Alcoholism Services Demonstration (ASD). The major project goal of the Alcoholism Services Demonstration was to demonstrate that cost savings could be derived by providing alcoholism services to Medicare- and Medicaid-eligible recipients in freestanding alcohol treatment centers.
The purpose of this research was to evaluate Michigan's experience under the national demonstration project with a major focus on the following questions: (a) …
Life-Cycle Cost Effectiveness And Safety Evaluation Involving Tennessee Bureau Of Investigation Vehicles, Curtis Lee Sturgill
Life-Cycle Cost Effectiveness And Safety Evaluation Involving Tennessee Bureau Of Investigation Vehicles, Curtis Lee Sturgill
Doctoral Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to identify and analyze the life-cycle effectiveness and safety factors involved in operating Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) motor vehicles from zero miles through life-cycle. The major concerns were to provide a balance of economic and safety factors for determining when vehicles should be replaced.
The data were collected from TBI files, Department of Transportation (DOT) records, and the National Automobile Dealers Associations Guide (NADA).
The analysis consisted of entering the data into a computer where they were cross tabulated to determine the correlation between operational costs and mileage.
The major findings of the …
Peak Isokinetic Torque Of Knee Flexors And Extensor Muscles Of College Football Players, David L. Boerem
Peak Isokinetic Torque Of Knee Flexors And Extensor Muscles Of College Football Players, David L. Boerem
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
The problem of the study addressed knee injuries in college football. Imbalance of the musculature surrounding the knee would predispose the athlete to knee injury. Recognition of those who have muscular deficiencies would be a primary way of preventing knee injuries. The focus of the study was to determine if there was a significant difference in peak isokinetic torque of knee flexor and extensor muscles across speeds (60 degrees/second, 180 degrees/ second and 300 degrees/second) of a college football team subsequent to participation in a spring football season.

The Effects Of The Thunderstick Batting Device On Hitting Efficiency, Bruce Anderson
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Throughout the decades, both professional and amateur athletes has been trying to enhance their performance with regard to hitting a baseball. Even through the methods for attaining this goal have changed many times since the early beginnings of the sport, there remain differing opinions as to the best method of acquiring a high level of hitting efficiency.
