This qualitative case study investigated the literacy educational practices of five general education first grade teachers in a charter school in Western New York. Charter schools typically hire teachers with less experience; therefore, the purpose of this study is to explore how first grade teachers in English Language Arts (ELA) and reading modified their literacy instruction to support all students, including, but not limited to, students with a variety of different disabilities. This study examined the effects of a graphic organizer, the Venn Diagram, on fourth graders' writing projects. The students' views and attitudes towards the effectiveness of the graphic organizer were considered and were determined by a student survey. This information was used to determine if the students felt the organizer improved their writing compared to a previously written essay that was created without, the organizer. The purpose of this study was to investigate the potential of commercially produced software. It evaluated the effectiveness of two different treatments and explored the relationship this may have upon increasing students' reading comprehension among fourth grade students. The subjects involved were forty heterogeneously grouped fourth grade students from a rural school setting school. The students were divided into two groups. A total of sixteen stories were read. This case study of one child was conducted during the school year when the child was a third grader. His reading ability was below grade level. He was unable to read fluently although he was able to speak fluently and articulate his thoughts. This study showed that, through word building using onset and rime patterns and analogies along with reading leveled and series books, reading ability could be improved. The purpose of this study was to investigate the dynamics that take place in the relationship between same gender paired readers. The participants in this study were forty-four elementary students from the fifth and second grade level. The school is located in an urban environment and over seventy- five percent of the students qualify for free or reduced lunch. The findings from this study suggest that boys and girls prefer to work with their same gender during buddy reading. This finding was particularly strong among the boys. This study attempted to determine whether there was a significant correlation between the letter recognition ability of kindergarten students and their risk-taking characteristics in the classroom. To achieve this purpose, letter recognition scores from November report cards were used, along with teacher input regarding risk-taking behaviors.
