This study explored how co-planning, shared workspace, and grade equivalent content knowledge impacted a co-teaching team (one special education teacher and one regular education teacher in the same room) working in the consultant teacher model (a special education teacher working in a classroom containing both regular and special education students). The researcher wanted to see what strategies fourth grade students say they use when they come to a word they don't know while they are reading. The researcher asked them what they do and then had them read out loud from a text. Notes were taken on the strategies they used to see if what they said matched what they actually did. Three mini-lessons were then given on word-solving strategies that they could use to figure out unknown words. The purpose of this study was to investigate what happens to the fluency of struggling readers when the decoding of new or unfamiliar words were taught during small group reading instruction.

Three females and two male first and second grade students provided usable data for this study. Research was.collected over a three-month period and was taken during small reading groups. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of immediate repeated reading and self-assessment of short passages, poems, arid phrases on all aspects of oral reading fluency and reading accuracy reading rate. Two male and one female third grade students were selected based on classroom teacher recommendation. The children who were chosen were not considered "at risk" students, they just needed a little extra push to reach and stay at grade level.
