Although implementation of health curriculum in elementary schools is generally the responsibility of classroom teachers, many elementary school teachers have had little to no health education training. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of using the modified neurological impress method to improve the reading fluency of five low achieving second and third grade students. All of the subjects attended a rural public elementary school in western New York. Students in the study received remedial reading support in addition to the modified NIM sessions. The study was conducted over an eight-week period. The researcher trained four parent volunteers and a classroom monitor to implement the modified NIM and recording procedures. An Investigation Of The Effects Of Using Literature To Promote The Understanding Of Mathematical Concepts In Children With Learning Disabilities, Stephanie Miller

This study was designed to test the hypothesis that including children's literature in the mathematics curriculum improves understanding of math concepts for children with learning disabilities. The subjects included 47 third grade students from a suburban school district outside of Rochester, New York. The children were divided into experimental and control groups. The control group received their regular mathematics curriculum, while the experimental group received the addition of children's literature to the regular curriculum. No statistical significance was noted quantitatively, while qualitatively, improvements were noted in children's attitudes and involvement with the curriculum.

The purpose of this study was to examine the correlation between consistent journal writing in a natural environment and students' use of conventions. The subjects of this study included five, second-grade students from a rural elementary school. They were chosen randomly from a class of fifteen. Approximately three times a week students were asked to write their thoughts, feelings and experiences in a journal. Spelling, punctuation and grammar was done to the best of their ability. The purpose of this study was to compare the expectations of kindergarten teachers and parents of pre-school-aged children on school readiness. Clarifying expectations can provide guidance and direction for parents in order to prepare their children in ways that meet teachers expectations.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between kindergarten sight word recognition and first grade reading ability. The subjects included 20 first graders in an urban school who had been in the researcher's kindergarten class. In kindergarten, the students were instructed in recognizing 135 sight words. The sight words were comprised from the Dolch List as well as words that were frequently used in the classroom. Their recognition of sight words varied from 10-135.
