Does The Use Of Bell Ringers As Formative Assessments Affect Student Retention Of Knowledge In A Third Grade Science Classroom?, Cari Herbst
Master's Theses & Capstone Projects
This research study explored if the use of daily bell ringers used as formative assessments increased student achievement in science. The study analyzed the effect daily bell ringers had on student summative assessment scores in a third grade science classroom. Data collection included summative assessments from a control group taught without daily bell ringers and the test group taught with daily bell ringers. The data and analysis showed there was an increase in the average class scores and amount of student’s proficient with the implementation of daily bell ringers.

Translanguaging And Responsive Assessment Adaptations: Emergent Bilingual Readers Through The Lens Of Possibility, Laura Ascenzi-Moreno
Translanguaging And Responsive Assessment Adaptations: Emergent Bilingual Readers Through The Lens Of Possibility, Laura Ascenzi-Moreno
Publications and Research
Through a case study, this article features how three teachers working with emergent bilingual students adapted formative reading assessments by creating a space for translanguaging within these assessments. The findings demonstrate that through these shifts, called responsive adaptations, teachers were able to construct an accurate portrait of these students’ reading development. In addition, when students’ translanguaging was welcomed into the reading assessment process, it became apparent that their bilingual abilities were essential to their development as readers. This article aims to inspire and aid teachers in identifying the language resources students bring to classrooms, integrating responsive adaptations into their reading …

A Review Of Tools And Techniques For Data-Enabled Formative Assessment, Rob Nyland
University Author Recognition Bibliography: 2018
The purpose of this literature review is to understand the current state of research on tools that collect data for the purpose of formative assessment. We were interested in identifying the types of data collected by these tools, how these data were processed, and how the processed data were presented to the instructor or student for the purpose of formative assessment. We identified two categories of data: machine graded and activity stream data. The data were processed using three methods: unprocessed activity streams, descriptive data analysis, and data mining. Processed data were presented to students through reports and real-time feedback, …

Formative Assessment And The Impact On Student Learning, Michael Huisman
Master's Theses & Capstone Projects
The objective of this action research project was to examine the impact that formative assessment has on student learning. These formative assessment techniques were used in a general education environment with eighty-nine students. Data collection took place over the course of a three-month time period with both quantitative and qualitative techniques. These techniques were summative assessment scores as well as a student survey. Analysis of the overall data shows that formative assessment methods that are used in the classroom positively impacts student learning.
