Women Affirming Motherhood (WAM) recently received substantial support from the Empire Foundation for WAM’s work in assisting pregnant young women. As part of the grant, Empire required WAM to elicit bids for an independent evaluation of WAM’s performance. In what follows, the focus is on evaluating WAM’s effects. In particular, the concern is whether and how a randomized controlled trial (RCT) might be deployed so as to produce a fair estimate WAM’s effects.

In the effort to raise university faculty research capacity and to stimulate faculty to produce research of greater quality, the government of Kazakhstan has recently introduced a requirement for publication in journals with an impact factor as a part of requirements for faculty promotion.

This study will explore to what extent impact factor publication requirement was incorporated into universities’ promotion policies and on the resulting experiences of faculty. This paper looks at the different norms of practice between mathematics teachers in two countries, Kazakhstan and England. These differences pose challenges and opportunities for the implementation of a new secondary curriculum in Kazakhstan; a curriculum that has been shaped by and is grounded in prevailing practice in English educational system. A decade ago, Hornberger & Johnson proposed that the ethnography of language planning and policy (ELPP) offers a useful way to understand how people create, interpret, and at times resist language policy and planning (LPP). It is not always easy to understand ideas that are statistical or probabilistic in character. It is even less easy to explain those ideas well.

The quotations in this collection were assembled partly to understand how to understand, at least insofar as words (rather than statistical models) permit, and how writers think and explain.

Not A Twitter Revolution: Anti-Neoliberal And Antiracist Resistance In The Ferguson Movement, Cristina Mislán, Amalia Dache-Gerbino

Drawing from the literature on digital media, social movements, and race and class politics, this study analyzes the role media played in the 2014 and 2015 Ferguson Movement. Contrary to current conversations about #Ferguson, this article elevates the voices of local activists who organized from the streets of St. Louis, Missouri, through an analysis of 21 unstructured interviews with community activists. It also places these interviews within the context of Twitter discourse.
