Increasing Family Involvement With The Use Of Technology, Briana Riddle
Master's Theses & Capstone Projects
The purpose of this action research project was to determine if the use of an online application could increase parental involvement, more specifically communication, in a prekindergarten setting. Data was collected through quantitative means using a tally system for each occurrence of communication and which method was used. The classroom setting consist of two groups of students, an AM and a PM group. One class had the application made available to them, along with the other forms of communication, while the other class only had the basic forms of communication (e-mail, face-to-face, or phone calls) available. Analysis of the data …
The Relationship Between Secondary Teachers’ Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge And Technology Integration Factors, Randal Cody Raper
The Relationship Between Secondary Teachers’ Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge And Technology Integration Factors, Randal Cody Raper
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Research in educational technology has led to the discovery of factors for successful technology integration into the classroom—technology access and support, professional development, attitudes toward technology, technology use by students, and technology use by teachers. Additionally, using the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) theoretical framework, a teacher’s understanding of the knowledge required to effectively implement technology can be measured. This study attempted to examine the relationship between teachers’ TPACK score and the key indicators of technology integration using the TPACK survey and the Survey of Technology Integration and Related Factors (STIR). Using a nonexperimental, correlational design, participants were selected from …

This predictive correlational study explored the lack of generalizable data regarding the use of technology in the Christian K-12 environment. The study searched for a predictive correlation between teachers’ overall use of technology, openness to change, amount of technology training, and hours of work beyond the contractual work week, based on previous study in public education (Vannatta & Fordham, 2004). The target population was all teachers who work in schools that are members in good standing with the Association of Christian Schools International in the United States. Using a random sample, teachers were asked to participate in the study and …
A Case Study Exploring Effective Leadership In Technology Integration In Three Southeastern U.S. Elementary Schools, Lauren Woodward
A Case Study Exploring Effective Leadership In Technology Integration In Three Southeastern U.S. Elementary Schools, Lauren Woodward
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this qualitative multiple case study was to explore the characteristics of effective leadership in technology integration for school leaders and staff members in three southeastern, U.S. elementary schools. The theoretical framework that guided this study was based on Spillane’s (2005) distributed leadership model and Kouzes and Posner’s (2012) model of transformational leadership. These theories provided an understanding of leadership practices and characteristics that fostered an environment, which successfully supported the process of technology integration. The rationale for the study was that there is a gap in the literature that addresses effective leadership and practices for technology integration. …
Flipping The Flipped: The Co-Creational Classroom, Vuk Uskoković
Flipping The Flipped: The Co-Creational Classroom, Vuk Uskoković
Pharmacy Faculty Articles and Research
The flip teaching model is being increasingly adopted by higher education institutions as an active learning alternative to traditional lecturing. However, the flip model shares a number of critical premises with the classical didactics. The further flips of the flip are thus advocated and the fear of returning the method to its initial state, prior to the flip, via such flips of the flipped dispelled. Proposed here is a seminal variation to the flip model based on the active involvement of students in searching, finding, selecting, and assembling knowledge from various literature sources into the learning material for the entire …

Phonemic awareness is the ability to hear and manipulate the individual sound within words and is a crucial predicator of reading skills. Students with reading and writing difficulties often struggle with phonemic awareness tasks. Technology contributes to early literacy skills through providing means of communication, phonemic awareness instruction and comprehension skills. This study is an extension upon a previous study that evaluated the effectiveness of an iPad supported phonics intervention on identifying and generalization of consonant blends. A multi-element single case research design was used to address the following two research questions: 1) Is there a functional relation between the …

Of Mind Maps And Makerspaces: Technology Approach To Law Teaching, Sharon Bradley
Presentations
Mind maps and makerspaces are two potential approaches to instruction that might inject a little fun and zing into the classroom. Mind maps are a more visual or graphical tool for teaching analysis, problem solving, and decision-making. Makerspaces embrace Langdell’s model of the law library as the “laboratory” of the law school. A makerspace could allow students to experiment, create, and learn to evaluate the “benefits and risks associated with relevant technology,” as reflected in the recent change to Rule 1.1 of the Model Rules of Professional Conduct.

This paper analyzes a shifting landscape of intellectual freedom (IF) in and outside Florida for children, adolescents, teens and adults. National ideals stand in tension with local and state developments, as new threats are visible in historical, legal, and technological context. Examples include doctrinal shifts, legislative bills, electronic surveillance and recent attempts to censor books, classroom texts, and reading lists.
Privacy rights for minors in Florida are increasingly unstable. New assertions of parental rights are part of a larger conservative animus. Proponents of IF can identify a lessening of ideals and standards that began after doctrinal fruition in the 1960s …

Enhancing Literacy Instruction Through Technology, Kaylin M. Haugen
Senior Honors Theses
Technology has altered how children experience language. As technology has taken root in society, literacy skills have expanded beyond simply reading and writing print texts to include interacting with digital texts and media. To prepare students to operate in this digital environment, teachers should integrate technology into language arts instruction; however, many teachers feel unprepared to do so effectively. Additionally, some teachers hesitate to implement technology into language arts instruction as a tool because of its supposed negative effects on literacy. Despite beliefs about technology inhibiting reading and writing, teachers can utilize technology to enhance literacy instruction. The digital age …

Conceptualising Technology Practice In Education Using Bourdieu's Sociology, Karley A. Beckman, Tiffani L. Apps, Sue Bennett, Lori Lockyer
Faculty of Social Sciences - Papers (Archive)
Evidence from large-scale studies of primary and secondary students' technology practices at school over the last decade show disparities in student practices and suggest that schools need to do more to cater for all students. Research that explores the influence of social and cultural factors may be useful for understanding such inequality in student practice. Bourdieu's theory of practice [(1977). Outline of a Theory of Practice. London: Cambridge University Press] is proposed as an example of a sociological theory that can be adopted in educational technology research to move towards understanding the wider complexities of technology practice. To encourage discourse …

Some research has explored perspectives held by the homeless on technology use (Borchard, 2010; Eyrich-Garg, 2010, 2011; Harpin, Davis, Low, & Gilroy, 2016; Hersberger, 2002/2003; Pollio, Batey, Bender, Ferguson, & Thompson, 2013). Few studies have however focused on understanding this population’s use of technology for literacy purposes (Hendry, 2011; Muggleton & Ruthven, 2012), as distinct from their more general technology use, such as acquiring the skills to improve their station in life or to enhance their health, or utilize social services. Employing symbolic interactionism (Blumer, 1969) as a conceptual framework and using semi-structured interviews, this qualitative study examines technology use …
