Many activity-based articles describe how the Internet can help develop higher level thinking skills. But these skills can be used and assessed only after students have a basic working knowledge of the Internet. This article presents a framework for teaching elementary students to use the Internet in the one-computer classroom.

This study takes place within the context of the Science: Parents, Activities, and Literature (Science PALS) project and examines elementary school students' reactions to instruction implemented by teachers participating in this special problem-centered professional development program. The study focuses on student perceptions of their science instruction and student attitudes toward science learning as a function of their exposure to interactive, constructivist teaching strategies designed to focus on student ideas, utilization of literature connections, and incorporation of parents as partners. Using student perceptions and attitudes as dependent variables, teacher participation as the main independent variable, and grade levels and student gender …

I will explore alternative methods for teaching developmental students. Traditional methods of teaching grammar and writing have already failed most of these students. We cannot offer them the same material in the same way without expecting the same results. I will look at the current research of various learning styles and multiple intelligences, and adapt my teaching methods accordingly. I want to rethink what my colleagues and I do in the classroom and find ways to help our students be more successful, as students, as learners, and as future contributors in the work force. As a tangible result of my …

The Effects Of The Advanced Placement Examination For Credit Policy By The Florida State Universities On The Acceleration Of A Student's Postsecundary Education, Denise A. Collado
FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this research study was to determine if the Advanced Placement program as it is recognized by the universities in the Florida State University System (SUS) truly serves as an acceleration mechanism for those students who enter an SUS institution with passing AP scores. Despite mandates which attempt to control uniformity of policy, each public university in Florida determines which courses will be exempted and the number of credits they will grant for passing Advanced Placement courses.
This is a descriptive study in which the AP policies of each of the SUS institutions were compared. Additionally, the college …

On a warm April morning, 80 eighth-grade students from North Middle School in Aurora, Colorado, gathered in nearby Sand Creek Park to erect bat houses. "Why bat houses?" a local news reporter asked. "To control the insect population," one of the students answered. "We have reclaimed this park for all the plant and animal species that live here and for the people of our community who want to enjoy the surroundings," another student offered. "Because of the water and foliage, insects, especially mosquitoes, are a problem. We don't want the city to apply insecticides in the park, so we are …

Development Of Design Guiding Principles For Constructivist-Based Distance Learning Environments, Mary C. Herring
Curriculum & Instruction Faculty Publications
K-12 teachers are struggling to design effective learning environments that meet the future needs of their students.A number of individuals have suggested that a relatively new theory of learning, constructivism, supports visions of the 21st century, technology-rich, classrooms. The role of technology in the learning process has steadily in-creased as access has opened classrooms to the world providing teachers and students with expanding learning opportunities. The advent of increased access to world-linking technology has increased the use of distance education to enrich and expand the learning landscape for students. To support and facilitate teachers responses to these changes in their …

Education is changing. A paradigm shift has occurred within education as the world has moved from the industrial age to the information age (Reigeluth, 1994; Toff ler, 1990). This shift has provided educators with technological innovations that have created new environments of teaching and learning; environments that no longer support the "assembly line" view of industrialized education. Reigeluth (1994) describes industrialized education as education which treats all students the same; all students are expected to do the same thing at the same time. This sameness forces students to be passive learners and passive members of their school community. Information age …

Department of Teaching, Learning, and Teacher Education: Faculty Publications
The following list of principles is my attempt to share general recommendations to teachers of ESOL and/or limited literacy adults based on my specific practice running a bilingual family literacy program and confirmed by my more recent experience as a volunteer bilingual literacy teacher at the Asociación Latinoamericana (in Atlanta). Though I believe in bilingual classroom environments, I think the principles identified here are also pertinent to monolingual ESL environments.

The Use Of Multiple Intelligences In Designing Curriculum For An Early Childhood Classroom, Dawn Osterhaus
The Use Of Multiple Intelligences In Designing Curriculum For An Early Childhood Classroom, Dawn Osterhaus
Graduate Research Papers
Early childhood curriculum implementation is not yet well represented in the literature pertaining to multiple intelligences. For purposes of this project, the literature pertaining to early childhood classrooms where the seven multiple intelligences were implemented was reviewed, and a preschool implementing the seven multiple intelligences has been written. This curriculum makes a difference in how the authors' lesson plans are designed and classroom activities are chosen. The resulting curriculum may also make a difference in how other early childhood educators set up their overall curriculum, and provides an easy-to-follow resource guide of potential use when planning individual units and activities.

Undergraduate Accounting Curriculum: The Unique Case Of Iran, H. Wijewardena, J. Roudaki
Faculty of Business - Accounting & Finance Working Papers
After the Islamic Revolution of 1979, the entire education system in Iran was drastically changed to make it more relevant to the Islamic principles. Accordingly, a single undergraduate accounting curriculum designed by the government was imposed on all universities in Iran in 1982. Since then, undergraduate accounting programmes of all universities have been conducted on the basis of this common curriculum. However, there has been criticism that several features of this curriculum are not appropriate in terms ofeducational objectives and economic conditions of the country. This study examined the nature and content of the above curriculum with the purpose of …

Ec97-277 Minerals And Vitamins For Beef Cows, Richard J. Rasby, Dennis R. Brink, Ivan G. Rush, Don C. Adams
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
Introduction
Mineral supplementation programs range from elaborate, cafeteria-style delivery systems to simple white salt blocks put out periodically by producers. The reason for this diversity: little applicable research available for producers to evaluate mineral supplement programs. There is a need of information regarding mineral composition and availability from various feedstuffs (i.e. pasture grasses, hays, by-products, etc.) and the possible interactions between minerals in the digestive system. Also lacking is a data base to establish accurate estimates of mineral requirements for beef cattle.
Assessing the consequence of mineral deficiencies in the cow, calf or stocker animal is difficult because slightly lowered …
