Effects Of A Program To Correct Career Myths Among University Of Nebraska Undergraduates, David L. Erickson
Open Access Master's Theses (through 2010)
The career myths concept was developed in recent years to explain one type of difficulty that counselors have in helping clients implement a rational plan of career decision-making.Career myths are those incorrect or self-defeating career-related beliefs or attitudes which either 1) serve to inhibit the client from making a career decision, or 2) cause the client to make a premature decision, without sufficient regard for self or occupational information.College counselors consider career myths to be a major impediment to rational career planning.
The main goal of this study has been to test the hypothesis that career myths can be effectively …

Math And Science Education, Geoffrey F. Davies, David Moshman, Lauren B. Resnick
Department of Educational Psychology: Faculty Publications
Resnick provides an excellent brief account of current work in cognitive psychology and its important implications for math and science education. As she indicates, most cognitive psychologists view knowledge as consisting of highly organized schemata into which new experiences are assimilated and view the learner as actively constructing new knowledge. This view is consistent with the ideas that Piagetian theorists and educators have been propounding for many years, although Resnick’s discussion is rooted in the more detailed analysis of specific knowledge and learning in specific content areas that typifies the information-processing paradigm of modern cognitive science.

The Visual Arts In The Civilization Classroom, Thomas M. Carr Jr.
The Visual Arts In The Civilization Classroom, Thomas M. Carr Jr.
French Language and Literature Papers
Although the visual arts have long been a feature of civilization courses, instructors do not always exploit their full potential. This paper presents a checklist to help teachers identify the relevant aspects of the arts for study. Its goal is to facilitate comprehensive treatment of works of art by focusing on three areas: the aesthetic dimension, the social context, and the artist’s own experience. The checklist is followed by a series of activities which encourage students to integrate the various aspects of the arts while practicing their language skills.

More Than Just A Place To Live: A History Of Raymond, Love, Heppner, And Piper Halls, Jay Curtiss
Archives & Special Collections
Fifty years ago, in-the fall of 1932, Raymond Hall opened-to students for the first time. To commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of this event, I took it upon myself to compile a history of the buildings and to write biographies of the people after which those buildings are named.
When I began working on this little piece of nostalgia, I didn't realize how much work would be involved, and how long it would ultimately take. Now, nearly three years later, my work is compete, at least as far as I am willing to go.
Many people have asked me why I …

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
This NebGuide provides cleaning, sanitizing, mechanical, environmental and other procedures to follow to assure a low bacterial count in milk. Bacteria are tiny, rapidly reproducing microorganisms that are too small to be seen without a high power microscope. Their very tiny size makes it very difficult to eliminate them from dairy equipment. Because bacterial growth in milk may cause spoilage and possibly human illnesses, a low bacterial count is one of the best indicators of top quality milk. Milk will almost always be of top quality if properly harvested from healthy, clean cows with clean equipment, cooled quickly and kept …

How do you typically respond when you seriously disagree with someone? Do you...

3. get angry, criticize, call names, use sarcasm or some other aggressive behavior?
4. give in; say "I guess you are right" with a big sigh, be submissive in order to avoid conflict.
5. deny or pretend that "everything is okay"--no conflict exists.
