Due to an amendment in the Education Law- Section 207, persons obtaining provisional certification after January 1, 1978 are required to complete graduate study which leads to a masters degree and which is "functionally relevant" to the area in which they seek permanent certification. Directed Study is a procedure which provides flexibility in scheduling for students who are experiencing difficulty in enrolling in specific courses.

Students begin the process by obtaining an application from the Office of Academic Advisement/Transcript Evaluation obtaining the signatures of the instructor and unit head (if required), and returning the application to the Office of Academic Advisement/Transcript Evaluation.
