Over the last six months, the Isabelle Farrington College of Education has been adding new programs and improving existing ones. These include cross-endorsement in Comprehensive Special Education for certified teachers in Connecticut. We are also gearing up for an Ed.D. strand in Higher Education to begin fall 2015. Designed for working professionals, this program prepares them for careers in higher education administration, as well as for teaching roles within post-secondary and corporate environments. Our second strand of the Ed.D. Program is in PK-12 educational leadership. This strand, which includes Connecticut Superintendent (093) certification, is slated to begin fall 2016, pending …

From the Introduction: Colleges and universities with plagiarism policies that are fundamentally fair—and that are applied consistently—enjoy three significant advantages over those that do not. Over the past three years, executives at General Electric (GE) have taught administrators at Sacred Heart University, located in Fairfield, CT, how to use the workout technique to identify and improve inefficient institutional processes and practices. This article will explain how Sacred Heart implemented the workout process, with a particular emphasis on factors contributing to successful workouts and the issues nonprofits encounter. GE has credited the workout with both improving processes and empowering the workforce. The spiraling cost of education, the spread of technology, and the competitive nature of the job market have changed the very notion of what education should be and who should pay for it.

This chapter proposes a series of practical reforms, designed to work within the existing structure of higher education. The underlying assumption is that higher education in Connecticut is best served by allowing the natural forces of the market to determine the direction of growth and development. Minimal government interference will mean the greatest amount of choice and the highest quality of education for students in the state.

The authors looked at differences among 6 Asian American ethnic groups in terms of student-level and school-level characteristics and examined factors related to their educational aspirations. The authors provided implications for counselors to help Asian American students achieve academic success in secondary and higher education.
